iTunes restore failing with error (1)

Hi there,
think I might have broken my iphone 4S
did a battery swap and it booted up but stuck on searching and couldn't find my gsm provider
did a iTunes restore from DFU mode but when it gets about 60% through it fails with error (1) message
now I can not get it out of DFU mode at all
is it fubar'd or can someone get me out of the $*@t ??

btw it's was unlocked recently, (was Vodafone originally)

ANY help appreciated

Thanks but it's out of warranty and will incur a ?120 swap out fee which I'd rather avoid

I fear you're device may be bricked. Have a good read through this thread see if anything is relevant to you.

hi i have iphone 5 i recently had a new battery fitted and had the phone unlocked now the phone wont restore get stuck at about 60 percent and comes up with error does this mean its bricked thanks
