Contacts backup from dead iphone 5 possible?

A friend of mine have a dead iphone 5, completely died on him yesterday. He did not have any backup of his contacts, is there a way we can get the contacts back from the iphone?

If anyone have any clue it would be great....meanwhile ill be searching google

He didnt have icloud account ? If synchronized contacts you can get back if not i dont know mate
