    Copying mp3s to a jailbroken iPhone 3GS

    Hi folks,

I'm having problems copying mp3s to my iPhone 3GS. It's on 3.1.3 and jailbroken.

When I load up iTunes, I can see the music that I want to transfer. I click on the iPhone in the left panel and then into the Music tab. I check the 'Sync Music' box and select the Genre that I want to copy. When I click 'Apply' it says that 13 apps will be removed from the iPhone, do I want to continue. Obviously I don't want to continue because the apps will be removed and I don't want that. I just want to copy mp3 to the device.

Any ideas how I can do this with or without iTunes?

    Cheers

Hi DF, on the first page you have the settings, if you tick manually manage my music and videos, you can just drag and drop any files you want across. Its easier than syncing, and you dont need to keep anything on the PC then either.

Also, just right click your iphone in itunes, and select transfer my purchases, and it should then stop them being removed if and when you sync.

I really don't know this side of the Iphone. But if you want to move away from Itunes for transfers there's another option.

You will need to install Winamp on another PC unless you want to uninstall Itumes. You should be able to download a driver pack for the Iphone. This will allow you to transfer music similar to Itunes, only without Apple's Third Reich control.

I use it for my Ipod since Apple insist I have to update to XP before I can use the Version of Itunes needed.

If anyone knows better on the use of Winamp with the Iphone please let me know.

are you sure you have enough memory on your iphone df- this sounds as if i tunes wants to remove these apps to clear memory for the mp3's.

Memory has nothing to do with it. Its simply that itunes dont have the apps, therefore it removes them. Just transfer the purchases and you wont have this problem anymore.

Click on iPhone mate, then go to applications and turn auto sync off should stop the deleting and allow your music to be transferred!

When I 'transfer purchases' from the iphone, it goes through the motions, takes about 5 seconds. When I click on the Apps tab, there's still no apps there, should there be?

Then when I deselect the Apps option when syncing, it still asks if I want to continue as this will remove the 27 apps from the phone that iTunes doesn't have.

This is doing my heading now.

OK I think I'm getting somewhere now.

I done some reading and it sounded like it was a permissions thing so I de-authorized the computer via iTunes then re-authorized, tried to transfer purchases again and it seems to be transferring them over now. Happy Days!
