    Micro-sim question help

I have ordered the iphone 4 from apple site.

I am soon going to get a new contract deal through T-mobile with a standard nokia phone.

I wanted T-mobile to send me a micro-sim but they don't do them yet!

    My question is:

Will i be able to cut to size the sim to fit into the iphone 4? Or will this sim only be locked to the standard nokia phone and won't work in the iphone?

It is possible to cut down a regular SIM to fit the Iphone 4, but it's not for the faint hearted.

If you cut too much it will damage the chip. It also won't fit in any other model phone once you cut it.

The only other thing to remember is the SIM fits in the reverse direction to the standard SIM... I'll explain that better.

If you put a dot on the corner of the chip closest to the missing corner of the SIM. When it goes into the Iphone the cutaway corner is to the opposite corner with the dot.

If the cutaway corner was in the top left, it will now be in the bottom right. But the chip will be in the same orientation.

Solution is smple. Go to o2 website http://freesim.o2.co.uk/sKTLPi92 and order a free PAYG microsim. Use this as a template and cut your sim down to size. What you need to do is detach the standard sim from the card and place your tmobile sim underneath it and use a cd labeller pen or any fine tip pen and trace the microsim onto your original sim. After that just use a sharp pair of scissor and cut it. When you finish dont throw away the cut out part that was attach to the microsim instead use it as an adaptor to convert your microsim into a normal size sim! Hope this help. Look at this video it will help you understand what I have just said.

Here is a tutorial How To Convert a SIM to a MicroSIM with a Meat Cleaver!

You can also buy a micro SIM cutter online, but this seems such a waste for a use once only product!

I had to cut mine prior to my upgrade for use with my iphone 4 and i did it fine it is easy to do. Now i do have a proper micro sim its alot tidy compared to one i cut but it worked i used a stanley knife for mine and used an o2 micro sim as a guide for size.

Also once cut it doesn't mean it is limited to being just a micro sim thats not true i was provided by orange with an adaptor which means it can be used as a normal sim too.

On ebay you will find the micro sim adaptors should you need to use it in a normal phone!
