Password for wifi

Hi, after filling the hard drive on my old laptop to the max,(20Gb), I've purchased a new one running Win7.
The problem now is may be related to the above.
My Iphone 3gs is now asking for a password to start the wifi
any clues as to where to find this password would be useful all I know it is at least 8 charecters long.
The only thing I have noticed is that the phone has been updated to OS 4.02 when synced with the new laptop.

All sorted Now

Having reset the phone to the last back up (no Choice)
and having lost all my data etc, I found that the wireless wifi had managed to reset itselfto havng none in the security rather than WPA,WEP etc and the password being the WPA key.

Another headache sorted.
