I only got the iPhone yesterday, I really don't know what all this means.

I just want to be able to get Apps freely

If your plan to stay on Firmware 4.1 and you only need to jailbreak, then use Greenpois0n or Limera1n ....there are enough tutorial on YouTube for you to follow...

Jailbreaking is straight forward enough..with practice
Dont panic when you start getting blank screens, error messages, thats when you need to start posting here again...you will always have the option to restore with itunes if the crap hits the fan.

You can jalbreak with limerain, greenpoisen,or snowbreeze.

You can unlock by using iPad baseband if you want unlock but is slightly more difficult ,,,,but if doing unlock you would need more info....if you are tied in to a contract I wouldn't unlock

I have a Iphone 3GS on 4.21 and is jailborken, how ever you can't let the phone reboot or let the battery die, if you do you have to reboot using Redsn0w, apart from this it fine!!!!

just jailbreak using limerain,,,,its simple mate,,,even i managed it
once done just look on here or search the net and you will find a wealth of info
dont worry about the previous post, with limerain you can let the battery drain out without having to re-break,,,its completely safe and if you dont like it then you can restore in i tunes
do a bit of research first if youre unsure

This is what we call a TETHERED jailbreak (BAD)...a right pain in the arse.
A reason to always check when upgrading firmware, if the jailbreak is Tethered or Untethed...sometimes its not worth upgrading

I have a 3gs Jailbroken and version 3.1.3. Is it worth updating the phone to V4.2?

Go to 4.1Firmware only...until a fully Unthered jailbreak is available...

No m8 u know what they say if it's not broke don't fix it,however if your havin probs with apps etc maybe go to 4.0 but I would steer clear of 4.2
