    iphone 3g

    Hi guys

my iphone has just gone t*ts up, shop says motherboard has gone, he advised me to look on ebay for a 2nd hand one. Will the board from ebay give my phone a different imei? Will it still work on 02? Guy in the shop said all will be ok after the swap but i'm worried the phone wont work or wont let me on the 02 network if it's a board from another operator

    TIA

Yes it will have a different IMEI and it could be locked to a different provider or locked on the IMEI. It is probably not worth the risk as buying a motherboard is usually without any guarantees and it's on there for a reason.

Better to have a go at fixing yours.

    What is wrong with it?

Thanks for the reply, the screen went white, I thought the screen had gone but the guy said there was something wrong with the board didn't tell me what the problem was, maybe I should go back and ask him the exact fault, are the difficult to repair in the right hands

They truly suck to repair. This is why I am suspicious, I do not think that a "general phone man" would stand any chance of diagnosing a faulty motherboard so he just announces that it needs a new one.

White screen on a 3G is normally the diode under the small metal cover on the back. To get at that the motherboard has to be removed.

I think that most likely he has taken it apart, poked it and been unable to get it working.

If you take it to apple they will not look at it or do anything but offer you an exchange phone. This will be either ?140 OR ?0 depending on how they feel on the day.

One point i would like to make is that the 3g was only released on O2 in the uk, no other networks so you should be ok

That's true but most of the motherboards on ebay tend to be AT&T ones.

He said with a woeful amount of experience
