    Iphone 3g wi fi problem

I have a Iphone 3G. I have lost wi fi for about a year on it. It has never been Jailbroke. It has only been connected to Itunes. I have taken it to different apple stores with no luck. I have been told the airplane mode may have caused it by apple and others. If you go into setting and look under wifi it shows no wifi. Shows to be inactive as not an option. You cant turn it on or change the wifi setting. Can anyone help?

    Thanks ahead of time!

Have you tried to update it to latest version? My 3gs does random things like that it and the updates seem to sort them out.

Firstly Back up your files through iTunes ,then do a dfu restore to previous/same firmware, sometimes works wonders !!?

I have updated and went back to an older firm ware. For some reason I have lost the wifi. It seems to be a problem that occurs sometimes from using the airplane mode from what im told. I was using the airplane mode alot at the time from being in a plane and around sound systems.

It is probably knackered. The best thing to do is to is settings, general, reset and erase all contents and settings. This can take several hours but as a last resort is the only thing that may work.

You will lose everything that is on the phone and probably it still won't work but you may be lucky, occasionally it does work.

It's a pretty shite chip they use in the 3G.

I have the same problem and if you check apples forum and go to wifi/bluetooth theres about 200,000 views on
the posts about no wifi one post 17 pages long.
Seems its a hardware issue that apple just dont wanna
know about, i'm pissed to say te least but what can you
            do.

well thats not good. I wonder would if Jailbreaking it help or is there to many drawbacks to jailbreaking if you say with the same service provider?

catfan jailbreaking would not hepl you as it looks to me that the electronics that create the wifi radio signal on your phone has died- shop around my friend as you may be able to get it fixed for a reasonable amount- my brother recently got his bluetooth fixed for 30 quis and his sticky home button for 25 notes in glasgow.
