    Who activates an iphone?

Just done an unlock/jailbreak on a 3gs originally working on 02 irl however when I put the tesco mobile sim that I want to use it tells me no service and a pop up comes up saying "waiting for activation this may take some time" I've tried 2 other network(vodafone/meteor) sims in and they work straight away an 02 sim gets the same message as the tesco one, anyone know how long this should take? Thanks.

Me too, I was eyeing up an ipod touch for cheap and seen a 3gs 16GB in brill condition for very cheap and had to have it. Prob is it was an O2 phone and has the no service thing, But since I just wanted it for Mp3s and other slight wifi stuff I don't really care if I dont get it working again... but of course I have to know if can or can't be fixed again.

I notice theres lots on ebay that say no service and the sellers say they wont work in uk and stuff.. nevertheless I dont have a clue, anyone who can shed light on the matter would be greatly appreciated

Its on IOS4 and when I go to settings>about it says "Carrier-O2 9.1".. and I don't think its jailbroke.. the guy told me that all it needed was jailbroke to get back on a netwrok again, but I'm thinking theres more to it because of the price and the fact he could have just done the jailbreak and sold it for far more

                  It says- Version 4.2.1(8C148a)

And after a quick google on how to find the baseband it says- Modem firmwire 05.15.04

                  Is that good or bad?..

Truth is I really don't want to jailbreak it, not yet anyway. I hear theres wifi probs and stuff and also I'm happy enough with it as an mp3 player and with the free apps on the apps store... so only if I really know for sure it will work fine as a phone with minium probs then I will go for the jailbreak

Good to hear.. I'm a vodaphone man myself, so it needs to be unlocked to a different network anyhow for me. I know nothing about Jailbreaking except it gives you free apps. But I'm not really into that to be honest.. mp3's, the already free apps, and farting about the internet is good enough for me

Though if jailbreaking will fix the phone completey then I may look into it a bit more

Thats great to know then... I'm took back as to why the guy sold me the phone for so cheap... I literally got it for about 100 less than they go for on ebay with no service and in near new condition. Thats why I thought it was blocked out for good. The guy must'in of had a clue what the phone was worth

depends on what you want from the phone an ipod? or a phone as well ??

to jailbreak does make it more fun you can download apps, vids, movies, change themes and generally do what the ~~~~ you want with it.....you OWN IT!!.. do this through redsn0w 0.9.6b6 ...

it is also unlockable but you need to update your baseband which comes with warnings as you said wifi etc ....you wold need to go to ipad baseband 06.15.00 then install ultrasn0w 1.2 through cydia,,,i have done ,depends what you want from this ......why dont u just get used to it first....cheers micky

OK mate.. looks like I have alot of reading to do

I am happy with its ipod features and apps available for now.. when I get fed up with it I will atempt a jailbreak to get the phone working

So can you tell me if it will work 100% if all goes well when jailbreaking.. or is there something like location that may come into play and affect the phone accepting a network again.. or cutting out again

                              Cheers
