ok m8 iv sorted it i used itunes to get iOS 4.2.1
then greenpois0n 1.0 RC5 to JB iOS 4.2.1
thought itunes was gonner put it higher than 4.2.1

sorry to jump in could youplease help me got a iphone 3g 16gb ;secound hand today its been reset back to factoey settings /how do i get it to turn back on it chargers up and theres the apple in the centre of the screen could you please help /daughters phone its been set to default settings

Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your phone continue holding the home button until you see Connect to iTunes on the screen You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still dont see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore

it will look similar to this

there will be something inherently wrong with it, either it wont make phone calls, or send text messages or allow you to easily have an mp3 ringtone from your existing mp3s.
It wont bluetooth except to others of its ilk.
it will be bought by mostly tossers.
