iPhone Jailbreak using Greenpois0n and tinyumbrella(preserving Baseband).
This assumes you have downloaded to your computer a copy of the original 4.2.1 firmware.
These instruction are for Windows only

(1) Start tiny umbrella,(take the oppurtunity to save your SHSH files by press the appropriate button)
(2) Press the Start TSS button.



(3) Start iTunes > Device(your iPhone)
(4) Press shift+left mouse button on the Restore option
(5) An option to search for your *.ipsw file will show, locate and select the 4.2.1 firmware you have previosly downloaded.
(6) Your iPhone will now begin the upgrade.
(7) Assuming all goes well you will encounter a 1013 error popup.(usb connecting to iTunes)




(8) Close iTunes, Stop TSS on tinyumbrella,close tinyumbrella, Start Greenpois0n.



(9) Disregard the fact you cannot power off your iPhone. Just follow the Greenpois0n on screen instructions(into DFU mode) regarding button pressing and begin the Jailbreaking process. Timing is important,get this part right!!

(10) Greenpois0n has a built in feature for clearing the 1013 error message while jailbreaking your iPhone.
(11) Start iTunes to Activate your iPhone,use the Loader app to install Cydia.

Or you can use snowbreeze to make a custom .ipsw to maintain your baseband , restore using itunes and then jailbreak with greenpois0n

Wass having that 1013 error all the time so downgraded back to 4.1 now thanks to the info got 4.2.1 back on will be keeping an eye out for 4.3.1 cant see much difference though myself..

after upgrading to 4.2.1 and then trying to sync my apps via itunes it will only sync a few of them,anyone got any ideas how to fix this

If you have any cracked apps you will need AppSync to make sure all apps are copied over from iTunes

Thanks Fijiman for your efforts, will this work with iphone 3gs on 4.01 I have read some where that preserving baseband with this software only works on iphone 4? or have I read it wrong :-)

It will work ok. The method I have shown is used to upgrade or downgrade firmware, in the process it preserves you baseband. If your on 4.0.1 fw, I'm assuming you are already jailbroken and want to upgrade firmware. If your not jailbroken this method will not work for you as you will not have save your SHSH files saved. I would then just jailbreak and stay on 4.0.1 fw until a fully working Untethered jailbreak for 4.3.1 fw is out.
