Can't get iPod touch into dfu mode

Hi all got a iPod touch 32 gig,don't know what model it is got chrome back to it if that helps,it's password locked out for 8years ,tried everything to get into dfu mode,buttons press wise I have held home plug in USB no luck hold power and home 10 secs when on, done the hold power for 2 secs then home then let go all with no joy so please anyone help,don't remember or know what model or firmware think it's 3G no sure any help ty in advance ;-)

Connect your iPod touch to your PC using the usb cable. Then put your iPod touch in sleep mode. When in sleep mode press power until the slide to power off show. Pressing still the power press home button until your screen flicks then release the power button then still continue pressing for 10 seconds then you are in DFU mode...

Any of the current jailbreak tools(redsn0w or sn0wbreeze) have on screen option to get you into DFU mode...best to use these..
