ipod wont connect to pc

ok hopefully someone can solve this for me, I plugged the ipod touch into my computer last night and it flashed up on comp saying it was plugged in. I then opened itunes and couldn't find it nor is it showing on the comp, I changed ipod - usb lead and it still wont pick it up, i tried it on 3 different comps; still wont pick up, i plugged in my ipod classic to check the lead was working and that works fine..
Ipod has the original f/w on it, i think its 3.1.3.

Just an update,
Sorted this now, i got a new lead to connect to computer and it works fine now, Still can't understand why the old lead would work same ipod touch in the car & connect the ipod classic to the computer; but not the touch..
