I have 2 r4 cards, tried loading up firmware and each one says loading on the screen, have formatted the card to fat32 can anyone help

What firmware are you using for it, if the R4 is a clone (which is probably 90% certain) then you need unofficial firmware for it. There are some firmwares in the downloads section, try one of those on it, the latest is 1.24 and should be in downloads but if not then try anything above 1.18 because thats the latest official firmware.sigpic
