Can't find the right kernel for my R4i Card. Please help...

Hi everyone. I am having problems with some of my R4i cards. I know I've had them working in the past, but just can't seem to find the right kernel to get the 4 of them working again. They are all specifically coded on the back with "R4i-SDHC 6" just above the gold contacts. I have other R4i cards that do work that have just a number 1 above the gold contacts. Here's a picture of both:

The ones on the left with a 1 will work with any kernel from r4i-sdhc.com (v1.39b - v1.44b). The ones on the right with a 6 will not work with any kernel from there. I have taken a working microSDHC card from the 1 chip and put it in the 6 chip and get no card inserted.

I have also tried the kernels using the list from linFox:
    - r4i-sdhc.com.tw (v2.13c and v2.08) since the pictures of the boxes/cards look the same
    - r4isdhc.com (1.15b and 2.0.0.8b).
    - r4i-gold.com

The DS's that I am using them in are:
    Original DS
    DSLite
    Dsi with firmware 1.4.1U

I am using both Kingston and Sandisk 4GB microSDHC cards that are formatted with the Panasonic SDFormatter.

I hope I have given enough information that someone can help me. I could see if one card went bad, but all 4 is not likely. It would be really great to get these to work again and not have to buy 4 new R4 cards!

    Thanks for any help!!!

Thanks for the reply. Still no luck with any of those, however for a fleeting moment, the R4iSDHC.com.au_v1.4_English showed up as "Alex Rider Storm Breaker" on the DSi. I Pressed A to start the chip and it goes to a black screen and on the bottom screen says:
"An error has occurred. Press and hold the Power Button to turn the system off. Please see the Nintendo DSi Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."

However, it only happened once and I can't get it to show that anything is inserted in the card slot with that same kernel in any of the 4 cards. I did download the 2.12c.au from linFox thinking it might be an au chip, but no luck...

        Any other suggestions?

As far as formatting the SD card(s), I either use the SD Formatter or Windows Format (right click.. format) and haven't had any problems. I have probably loaded about 30 of these R4 & R4i cards for friends and family. I've had one or two of the others die, but the "6" cards are the only ones I'm having a problem with. I'm trying to remember who might have a 6 card still with a working kernel. Actually, I just called someone and they said they have a 6 card and theirs stopped working! I don't know what it is with these chips... that's 5 of them!

          HELP! Please! Any ideas?

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it in the "6" chip.. crossed my fingers... nothing. Tried it in the "1" chip and only got the white screen with "Menu" in red in the middle.

Sorry couldnt help, if its any cconsolation ive got 3 dead ones on the side. The last 4 ive bought however, seem to work no probs.

Have you tried using a 2gb micro sd to see if makes a difference.

My TTmenu ones only work with 2gb max, but the R4's take 4gb easy.

Acctually, scrap that last comment.Had a blonde moment and forgot your using R4's

the card that flashed up stormbreaker, did you try it in a dslite?

sounds like your cards are clones of acekard2i.
                  possibly r4iultra

                  try this

R4i/R4 Ultra, R4 Revolution For DS DSL DSi - R4i/R4 Ultra Official Website

                  or

Digital Kaos - Downloads - AKAIO 1.8.8 for AK 2i download

                  or even this

                    I think your R4i SDHC Card is bad,Since it didn't work with official kernel r4i v1.44b and r4i v1.43b.

                      1) Yes, with every kernel I try on these "6" chips, I put it in a DSLite and a DSi, both with the same results of "No card inserted". I also try 2 or 3 of the "6" chips just in case one of them IS bad.

                      2) Tried the 3 kernels above with same results.

Think I may give up on this one! I remember about 8 months ago when I got the cards that they were "different" but I seemed to get them working with little effort then and didn't really give it a second thought. I'm missing something and it's probably right in front of me! I really hate when the boxes are identical, but have different chips in them!

If you read my first email, I have FIVE (5) count them FIVE of these chips with a "6" on them. It's probable that all 5 could go bad, but really not possible!

i think the cards maybe fake and designed to work on whichever firmwaer was out at the time the card were manufactured.

this ties in with you getting them working without much problems.

now that the fimrware has been updated, the cards can't run on it.

i know there are fake acekard which were released around november last year.
these cards only work on older akaio fimrware 1.8.1 which was the latest firmware available at time of manufacture.
the cards dont work on anything else.

i'm wondering if your cards have the same problem?

If I remember correctly, I got this batch around christmas 2010 because friends were giving them as gifts to their kids and family. I had to deal with problems ON CHRISTMAS because the kids couldn't play the chips. I had got one of the "1" chips working and used that same kernel on the 10 chips I bought, not realizing there were "1"'s and "6"'s! I spent half the day of christmas trying to make it work, and I did... but I just don't remember what kernel I used and I've cleaned up my DS directory since then. Didn't know 9 months later I'd have 5 of them dead in my hands! I also don't remember using such an "outside kernel" from the r4i-sdhc site. Is it possible that as people upgraded to DSi units that the DSi could fry/zap the chip to disable it?

no, as far as i know the consoles cant fry the cards.

it is strange though that non of them are working.

you could maybe go to official site and try e-mailing them to ask what the six means and see if they could advise you...

i think they must be clones tbh and need fimrware specific to the time of manufacture.

i had a look through some old cards and i have the same looking r4i card as you (can't get it to work either ), but mines says R4i-SDHC 5 on the back.

i sent them an e-mail yesterday asking what the numbers means, got an e-mail back today saying the cards ado not come from them.....
                              so they must be clones...
