DSi R4 Chip Error

I traded in the DSI for 3DI for 80 and today received the 3DS card. It is working fine. I just removed the micro SD card from R4i v1.4 card and inserted into the R4i 3DS and no problem at all.
I can not compare the DSI with 3DS housing. The DSI it was by far stronger built. It fell on hard surface many times and no scratch at all, it was like new after 2 years. The 3DS has already marks on it after light usage, if drops down I do not know....I will see.

New to this so please be patient.....
I have an R4 Chip with a 1gb memory card which works completely fine with my DS lite.
I have now purchased 2x WIFI R4 SDHC cards with a 4gb memory card. Have downloaded a load of games onto the chip.
Now have put the chip in my DS Lite and it comes up with a red box, question mark and Menu??
When I put it in a DSi it comes up with an error has occurred and the same on a DSi XL unit?

What am I doing wrong? or do i need other R4 Chip or memory card?

Are you check your device properly which contribute with memory card and r4 card? Is this capable to load and use r4 sdhc card which with 4gb? R4 sdhc is a high definition card which make resolution in high quality audio and video output.
