Red ? Menu on an R4i

I just got an r4i 1.4 from my friend, and I put the kernel in my micro sd card and put it in, and it worked.

I then put my micro sd card back in my computer to load some games, but when i put it back in, it comes up with a "? Menu" in a red micro sd card box thing.

I'm trying this on a DS Lite. I've tried putting the date back to 1.1.2010, but to no avail.

The Micro SD card i'm trying to use is an ADATA 8GB one.

I've tried reformatting, but that didn't work either.

There is nothing else on the card right now other than the firmware kernel.
