Please help - my boy's DSi R41 card has stopped working

    Hi folks,

Looking for some help / advice here.

Got home from work today and my boy stood in front of me, his bottom lip all a quivering and handed me his DSi which, instead of displaying the contents of the R4i card, proclaimed:

An error has occurred. Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Nintendo DSi Operations Manual for details.

Thinking I could quickly fix this and be Super Dad I visited R4 R4i SDHC Revolution for NDSi/NDSL/NDS R4i Cards R4 Cards, dowloaded the latest V1.4.4 kernel (v1.57b) and proceeded to update his R4i card.

The look of horror in his eyes when I passed him his newly updated DSi and nothing had changed will stay with me forever!

I have since formatted the micro sd card (and again with the Panasonic formatting tool), removed all files and started from scratch but nothing is working. Please help restore a little boy's faith in his father.

    Some details:

The info on the card states:
    WiFi
    R4i Upgrade V1.4.3
    Revolution for DS
    NDS: LL(XL)/NDSi/NDSL/NDS)
    R4 R4i SDHC Revolution for NDSi/NDSL/NDS R4i Cards R4 Cards

    The DSI:
    DSI-XL
    Firmware: 1.4.2.E

    Couple of questions:
    1. How do I go about fixing this?
    2. Why would it suddenly stop working now? It's only a month since I updated the kernel (an operation that went so smoothly it left me over-confident and ready for the fall from grace I have just suffered!).

Many thanks for any help / advice you can give.

    Regards,

    Bob

has yuor lad maybe updated the dsi..

check the firmware version of your dsi..

    answers.

    1. probably has stopped working because the lad updated the console online.

    2. if this is the case then i think it can be fixed with your card..

      The firmware is 1.4.2E
When you say it can be fixed with my card, do you mean credit card?

hi.put a normal game in and see if it loads up,a common fault with ds,that people think ds is faulty.is dust, get as much air into lungs and give a hard blow, might need to do it a couple of times, the amount of people that have came into C/C my game i bought is not working.a quick blow into card slot sorted it out.

I've never got round to setting up the WiFi connection for it so I don't think he could have updated the firmware, or am I really missing something here?

Check the file system? What's that and how do I check it? Apologies if I'm asking daft questions now but this really isn't my area of expertise (as you've probably already realised!).

What am I checking it for?

sorrry m8, i didnt mean credit card,
you shouldnt pay for help, at least not on here..

i thought the lad had probably done an online update.
now we know that he hasn't, need to get correct firmware for card..

what is the exact name of the card you are having problems wth?
what is the web address on card?

can you post a p[icture of card (or post as much detail as possible)

It's alright, I wasn't sure if you were telling it was game over for that card and I'd need to crack out the credit card to buy a new one...

ok, the details on the card are:

                    WiFi
                    R4i
V1.4.3 (in a bright yellow star!)
                    Upgrade
                    Revolution for DS
                    (NDSi LL(XL)/NDSi/NDSL/NDS)
                    web address is: R4I-SDHC.com

                    The SD card is 16Gb.

I've just dug out a 2Gb SD card so going to try that. Will report back in a bit.

well i will tell you summit m8, the cards dont like massive sd cards like 16gig...
they say they can work with this and that, but dont belive them..

                      try a smaller one first.

i get problems with cards over 4 gig tbh, have to reformat regularly

Just took another SD card - formatted it, dropped on the R4i files and got same 'screen of doom' result.

                        Dagnammit!

Ah right - good advice about the size of the card. When we got into this I thought it'd be a case of get card, add games and forget about it so just went and grabbed a card that would hold loads for the wee man.
To be honest, up until this prob today I think I've had to update the R4i files on two occasions and never had to touch it other than that (other than to bail the little one out when he's struggling on FIFA - of course!)

We had a nice, meaty 16Gb in there and up until today had no probs with it.
I have just tried a diddy 2Gb job though and getting the same error.
