I think you'll have to make an update everytime whent nintendo will let their update. The same thing was with a WII softmod.

yes just dont update,dont think it updates auto unless theres a setting 4 auto update on the 3DS needs wifi to update anyhow so just turn wifi off,as of other cards dont no but suspect all the same as r4 woukd not be able to sell any of their cards
