Dsi Help Needed

Hello all. I've just bought a Nintendo DSi and have an R4i 3DS Revolution card for it.
However, the DSi has firmware 1.4.4E.
I have tried loading the latest kernel onto it and inserting into an older DS Lite but all get is a little red icon on the upper screen and I am unable to do anything with it other than turn it off.
When I put on the software downloaded from the website printed on the R4i card and put it into the DS Lite, the card loads up but when i go into config, i get a message saying ...
"3in1 expansion pack not found. Please redo from start. (A): Confirm"

Confirming only switches the DS lite off.

Is there any way I can get this R4i card working with the current firmware or will I require another card?
If so, what card?

where you getting the kernels from www r4i-sdhc com?

the R4i 3DS cards don't work in the older DS Lite's, you need a non i card for it (plain R4).

yeah but you you can update the 3ds cards in an older ds as i do it every time a new kernel comes out, got to do it this way as the latest firmwares from nintendo block r4 cards etc
