Several possibilities here. Firstly are you rooting the files on to sd card correctly by which I mean opening folder and dropping them in and not dragging the folder and dropping in.

I'm not sure, when i download it, I open it with WinZip and then drag them from there to the SD card

Make sure you open folder then drag from there. Also save games and media and then delete sd card before dragging the files from open folder onto sd card

I haven't got any games yet. Everytime I put the card into my dsi it just doesn't show up:/

Have you formatted the card with a formatting tool?

the r4 card will only play on dsi 1.4 and below,
as your console is on 1.4.3, it will block the card, preventing it from loading..

however, it may be possible to update your card..

need as much detail as possible about the card.

if possible post a picture of it,
if not then post as much detail as possible of whats printed on card
              web address, any image etc...

I've formatted the card and now the card is showing up but when i click on it it says there is an error.
The card has R4i written on it with the v1.4 sticker next to it. Under that it says Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSi LL/NDSi/NDSL/NDS)

There are two to choose from one for your card and one for another.

You need to upgrade the firmware on your r4i card! The only problem is that you need a ds or ds lite to do this!

I've recently had the same problem. I contacted the card manufacturers who told me that the cards marked with 1.4 can't be upgraded. However, I thought I'd try anyway and I did manage to upgrade my card to work on 1.4.4. My biggest puzzle, was trying to find the firmware, which actually turns out to be embedded in the kernel software.

You'll need a ds or ds lite to upgrade the firmware. Download http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/R4i%20V1.64b%20English.zip from the manufacturers and extract the files to your SD card.
Than put the SD card into the r4i and then into a ds.
Open the r4i on the ds and go to config, then click on upgrade.
                        Job done!

Is there any way to do this without a ds?
The only over ds I can think of is my sister has the 3DS:/

No, a 3ds won't work. Is there no-one at work/school etc. you could borrow one from!

Been trying to do this with a R4 SDHC V1.4.3 but the ds doesn't give me an upgrade option it just displays the firmware version of the DS with no option to upgrade.

Im beginning to think it cant be done on this version??
