ds lite error date on loading

seven yr old grandson was playing with ds. He came to me with the ds showing the message ; date error or firmware expired. This was when he was loading. I checked the date and replaced the micro sd card with a spare one but the same message comes up. Please help ! I'm an 83 yr old grandad and my grandson thinks I'm a magican. Help me keep up the illusion

set the time and put the date back a couple of years..
