    Please help, im going mad!

Hello All, I updated my sons 3DS XL recently to ver6.1.0-12E recently, upon entering my R4i (rts) card with firmware Wood_R4iGold_V1.60, it comes up with a message which reads An error has occurred press and hold the power button to turn the system off, Please refer to the operations manual for details, I have tralled the internet for a fix to no avail now I find myself here asking for your help, anyone have any ideas?

In addition to this, done some more internet searching and have upgraded to firmware 1.70b, its still not working, am I trying to apply the wrong update to the card I have?

ooh, that's is one of the more complicated cards to update,
involves cutting tracks n the card and everything....

          you will need:

          1: woods v1.60
          2: patch file
          3: imnstructions.rar

here is a you-tube video of how to do it, watch it straight through first..

Many thanks for the help, is there a simpler card you can recommend where like the Nintendo DS XL all I have to do is replace the kernals everytime a update comes out from Nintendo?

Just tried all you suggested and followed the instructions, it seems the R4ids cards will or will not work with the new update, so yes, if you could suggest a new card where I don't have to get a knife and start cutting up my cards that will be awesome.
