only the original firmware when I purchased the card and numerous games, it was working fine until a few days ago, do i need to upgrade the firmware?

not if its just stopped wprking.
pull the battery out and in, then set the date back to 2009, see if that works first

i think you have deleted a system file.
can you tell me exactly what files you have on your card. not interested in the roms or sav files, just the firmware.
better still, if you could post a screen shot of sd card files

you might have a faulty card.
i take it you hadn't backed up your sd card?
problem with r4i cards is there is lots of diffrent versions, can be a bit of a ~~~~in nightmare getting correct firmware.

                i would reformat sd card
then on front of your r4i card, there will be a web address
                download firmware from there
then put firmware onto sd card and an older game for testing

tried to drag and drop firmware onto the sd card but keeps saying not enough space on file even though the file is empty, is the sd card buggered?

                            yes m8, golden rule..
always reformat card and when you get it working.
Just create a folder on your pc and backup the entire sd card..
makes life soo much easier in the future....
