Quick Guide On Setting Up & Fixing Most Common Faults On DS Flash Carts

After a quick flick through the DS Section, I see that most posts are setup related issues of flash carts. So I decided to help put most fixes in 1 thread. So lets start from the begining.

So you have your DS card, you need a micro SD card, upto yourself what size, if you go above 2gb in size, be reminded that you will need a SDHC compatable card ie, R4 SDHC. This is required to go above the 2gb in size.

OK you have your SD card. Pop it into a usb reader. You should get an auto play window appear, cancel it.
Open My Computer and look for the SD card (should be removable disk (drive letter).
Right click on the disk and goto format, you should get a screen, ensure quick format and fat32 are chosen, and format. This should only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Ok now with the SD card prepared, you will need to locate in copy the firmware correct for your card. A very good place to start is here http://www.linfoxdomain.com/nintendo/ds/This page has most common cards firmware on it, clone or original. If your card has a web page on it, chances are that the page will host the correct firmware for it there. You should try there first.

With the firmware downloaded it will most likely come in a .rar file (use winrar to open it and unpack to somewhere easy to locate) and copy the contents to the root of the SD card (the 1st window that opens when the SD card is opened) If the firmware is in a folder like english 1.12b, you will need to copy the contents to the root of the SD card.

Once that's finished, safely remove the SD card from the pc and try in the DS.

I tend to keep all my games (roms) in a folder called games, just keeps the card tidy and easier to back up in cases of emergencies.

Once you have the card working, i would take a backup and keep it safe in case you ever need it.

    FAQ's

    Can i use a R4 card in a DSI?

No, you will need a DSI compatable card, like the R4i but be aware, you should get 1 that is 1.4 compatable. But you can use a R4i card in a DS lite.

I keep getting 'menu?' when i turn on my DSI

Wrong or damaged firmware. Try and locate the firmware from the page listed, or if the card has 1 on the front then use that.

I look on the page you listed, but i cant find the correct firmware.

You will have to try each 1 or use an educated guess, R4's and R4i have been cloned many times, and use variations of the firmware, its a trial and error process.

    Where can i buy a DS/DSI card?

Use google, i wont tell you where to buy them, mainly because they are illegal in the UK now and people use many sites to purchase them.

    What card would you recomend?

I have used a few differant cards, they are all good, remember there are many clones of the R4 series.

I get the 'save file not found, reset system' error.

Could be a couple of things, SD card not formatted correctly. You could use the arm 7 fix http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...d-error-12352/ or try an update of the firmware.

If anyone wants anything adding, editing, please pm me and i will add/edit it.

    Cheers
