DSi will not take R4i card

Just brought a new DSi for my daughter, then brought a R4i but would not work, upgraded firmware and still would not work, but would work in friend one, any ideas how to fix this please.

what version is your new dsi running?
you might have a problem...

im at work i will check tonight, thinking about it the R4i card might have worked before, but when i set up the wireless i upgraded the system software, will post later, where will i find, where it states the software.
