I assume its a cloned R4 as they dont make them anymore, so you need to get unofficial firmware. It may be up to version 1.25 at the minute, I am not sure but will look about for you.

When you have access to download section you will find the firmware there, there are 2 seperate downloads, 1.23 or cloned, either should do you.

Delete all the files on ur card and go to this website:
R4 V1.18Kernel Downloads - Revolution For DS and download the english kernel download drop and drag the files/folders to the r4 card and then ur game files etc then just plug it in ur N-DS and away u go

Really new to all this I have downloaded the 1.18 kernal but it's in rar format but in windows media I have used 7zip to compress it and then it just gives me a file that can not be opened. I have spent hours trying to sort this and I have read every blog possible, please some1 help me

Dowload winrar (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar380.exe) and decompress the downloaded file.

You can then drag anad drop the files onto your R4 card.
