    Getting Started

    Hi all,

Am going to get my son a DSi for xmas and need to understand what's involved in getting backups to work.

So far (after a bit of searching and reading) I have stumbled across the fact that I need the following:-

    1. A DSi Flash Card
    2. A Micro SD Card (bigger than 4gb)

I need to understand what's the best options to go for.

Should I get the R4i card or the AceKard2i

Is there anything elxe I need to be aware of ?

and lastly a good place to source the items.

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers

    best get an acekard m8.
    two suppliers.

    1. cheap and cheerfull (wait a while for delivery)
    priceangels

    2. quick and expensive (2/3 days delivery)

you should be aware that you may need to update your acecard for dsi's version 1.4.1.
it is very easy to do, but you need a older dsi or ds to run the update.

you do not need an sd card bigger than 4 gig.
    4 gigs is plenty.

      Cheers mate,

Have just found out today that Granny is giving him a normal DS (she won it in a raffle a while ago).

So do I need the same stuff or is it different for a DS (non i version)

      Cheers

an acecard will work in any ds or dsi m8...

you can go for a cheaper card that will work in ds , but not in dsi's

orignal r4 with woods firmware will work well on your ds.
only drawback you can only use sd cards upto 2 gig

but to be honest, i think you are better off spending the extra couple of quid and getting the acecard....

        easier in the long run

          Thanks very much.

Just got my hands on it today and it's a DS lite.

Will get the Acecard for it.

          ;-)

          Thanks again

            ok,

Got the card, but need some help.

Am I right in thinking that I need to d/l the loader
            and then install AKAIO 1.8

Do I just cop the ROMS onto the card too ?

            Cheers

            TK

** Have just d/loaded this Official Version 4.23 from AceKard site **

              download akiou 1.8.1

extract and copy akoiu folder and akmenu file to microsd card
then just drag and drop the games.

that is the official firmware you have downloaded.
i would stick to the akiou firmware

                      Last question,

How do you backup original games to your micro SD card.

                      Cheers

Short answer is, you cant without some special kit. Easier to just download the ROMS mate.
