    R4I card for DSI

Currently have a R4I card which works perfectly in DS but have just bought a DSI as a present....will the R4i card work automatically in a DSi? If not, what should be my next step? Thanks...

if your dsi is new, then it will almost certainly be on 1.4.1 firmware.
if your r4i card is more than roughly 2 months old, then it will probably not work.

only way to find out for sure is to try it.
you do not need to change anything on the card.

if it doesnt work first time, then there is no fix.....

Thanks for replies...My card definitely says www.r4i-sdhc.com. We have an old card that says r4 on it so am guessing this is an R4i. The card is about about 10 months old and the DSi we bought recently.

If it doesn't work should I look to buy an Acekard 2i... The Company I bought the R4i card from seem to have disappeared...

Would the current SDHC card work in the Acekard 2i...would it need new firmware? I have saved all the games so could easily transfer them over again.

          it probably wont work then.
the new dsi's are on firmware 1.4.1
this was brought out specifically to "brick" gamecarts.

acecard released a kernal update to overcome this, but there is no uipdate for older r4i cards (although new ones have been adapted).

i would defo go for the acecard, far better supported.
and yes your micro sd card will work in acecard.
you just need to change the firmware and you can even keep your existing games on it.
the acecard wont see your save files from the r4 card, but if you change the file extension from .sav to .nds.sav ( i think), then you can use them too....

Thanks for that. The current files on the SDHC card are
            Moonmemo
            Moonshl2
            R4i menu
            Demon0.sys
            R4.dat
            swreset.sys

            Plus the games folder.

do I take all of them off when I have bought an Acekard 2i. Then download new firmware?

              yep,
you can leave the moonshell on. that works with acecard...
              delete the other files.

              AKAIO.1.8.1.rar

              download akiou 1.8.1
it is the latest firmware for acecard..
put the _aiou folder and akmenu.nds file on the sd card and thats it......
              job done...

just leave your games on it and either delete or modify your .sav files....

Lovely....thanks. Where would you recommend to buy an Acekard 2i. We have bought dodgy R4 cards (from Malaysia) before that have packed up within 3 months...lots of counterfeits on the market so worries me a bit. You have been really helpful - thanks.

                    two good suppliers:

                    1: r4i gold

uk based supplier, expect delivery in 2/3 days.

                    2: price angels

                    company based in china,
a bit cheaper than the uk based company, but delivery takes best part of three weeks.

Could you explain what the card does rather than the sdhc card...

                          not sure what you mean?

the sdhc is the micro sd card that holds all the files.
hc just means high capacity (more memory).

the game cart loads the roms....
