    R4i V1.4 Help please!

    Hi.

I'm looking for some help in getting an r4i card up and running, I've done a few of these for friends and usually after a bit of trial and error I get the correct firmware and am able to get it up and running, but this time I am about ready to crack up. I am using an R4I-SDHC Upgrade V1.4 and a kingston 8gb sd card and have tried just about every firmware possible. It looks to me like it should be V1.29b from this site R4i SDHC Revolution for NDSi/NDSL/NDS, but all I get is either a red question mark and menu written on the upper screen or sometimes with a bit of fiddling I get the normal r4 menu up but it won't play any games. Can anyone tell me firstly if I am using the correct firmware or if not what one I should be using. I've tried re-formatting my sd card in between every attempt so I don't think it's the sd card that's the problem I think it's the firmware.

Below is the card and packaging which should hopefully help identify exactly what one it is I'm using.

I would be extremely grateful for any help.

    Thank you.

Is that the thing when you look in the spanner tool on the dsi? It says V1.3E in there.

yes it is. do not update your dsi or the card wont wotrk in it at all.

according to the website, your card cannot work with the latest 1.29b firmware.....

problem is it soesn't give a link to firmware that it will work on...

i've had a look and i think this is the correct firmware for your card....

i would back up your sd then format it before trying the new firmware.
also as it is an older firmware, newer games won't work.

try it with an old game first, to see if you get anywhere......

Just tried that one but unfortunately it's coming up with the red question mark and menu on the top screen again.

I'll go through what I'm doing just in case I'm doing something wrong somewhere.

I'm formatting the sd card first of all.

          I'm then downloading the firmware.

I then unzip the firmware and extract it directly to the sd card.

I then add a folder called games and put an older nds rom into the folder to test it and then try it in the dsi.

When I go into the sd card (on my computer) I have two folders, one called Games, and one called r4i v1.24b English.

Is there anything there that I've done wrong?

Thank you soooo much for your help so far.

The files inside the folder 1.24b,should be on the root of sd card and not the full folder as you have done,if this still does not work then goto nds downloads here on Dk and download 1.20b I uploaded then if it works put the newer 1.29b over the top and overwrite

Ok, thanks, I did actually try doing it that way a few times and got the same problem I'm getting now which is, the r4 looks like it's loading, I get the r4 loading screen at the top then I get the menu on the bottom screen with the games and multimedia stuff on it. But when I try to load a game I get an error message saying "an error was detected when trying to access the disc or a file. Please confirm the following was rom file of a correct DLDI patch started? Please re-format the media and try again. Please try with a different media from a different manufacturer.

The Top screen has lots of writing on it also, at the bottom it says Application halted, please refer [moonshl2/logbuf.txt]

I've tried a different sd card just to make sure but the same thing happened.

Does any of this make any sense?

Just tried the v1.20b and it works apart from the date problem, how would I go about overwriting it with v1.29b? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but I'm scared to do anything wrong now that it's finally working. Thanks again for all your help.

Date problem take cartridge out and. Set ds date back a moth/year whatever.. Then with the 1.29b open as you did before and drop the files on top of the similar files you already have on card and click yes to overwrite when prompted

I don't believe it! I tried to update it to 1.29b, and it didn't work, and now I can't get v1.20b to work either!

I've tried formatting the sd card and reinstalling the v1.20b but I'm just getting a black screen on the bottom and a white screen on the top.

Is there any way to fix it again?

is it playing proper games now?
do you have another (smaller) sd card to try?
i have noticed on large sd cards 8 gigs and above my pc doesn't always format them correctly and i have to use a formatting tool......

Thank you both, I'm at work just now, so will try a 4gb card when I get home. Is there a limit to the amount of times you can format an sd card? Because I must have done it at least 30/40 times in the last two days, I'm wondering if maybe that is the problem.

sometimes pc's don't format cards correctly, i have noticed this on larger cards myself.

i have uploaded an easy to use formatting tool for you...
