Which Genius is able to solve my stupid R4i problem here? Please help...

Hi Everyone...

I'm new... new here, new to this stuff... trying to work this out for my mum believe it or not...

Anyway...

I have a red boxed R4i SDHC v1.4.1 Card

A DSi with vers 1.3e Firmware on it

I have been downloading various kernels and putting the files on a 4gb sansdisc Micro SD card and the DSi always says the is no game card present?!!

I am becoming aware there are MANY variations possibly involved here... so i was hoping someone smarter or more experienced than me would be able to help me get this thing working...

She'll be on my case hard to get her DSi back because ever since i gave it to her for Xmas she has been hooked!

Any help really is gratefully received.

Hi,

I bought the card from: Best place to buy R4 DS,AK2 i,DSTT,R4 i, R4 SDHC, M3,DS card in UK.

First place i came across that took paypal so i just went ahead... maybe i purchased the wrong kind? I just read it said DSi compatible and figured i could get my head around the rest..

Reading on here i get the feeling i shoulda bought an Acekard2 for easier time of it..

Also i did goto their site and emailed the site for help, they sent me to download vers 1.31b i think it was, which i tried with nop success... then i checked the DSi's version and it said 1.3e...

hi flamesbond, have u made a new folder and then named it games on the memory card,then put games in the games folder. here is the link for new jan 2011 firmware,http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/R4i%20V1.28b%20English.zip

Well i downloaded that 1.28b vers and opened the archive, copied the contents to my re formatted SD card, had three folders inside called: moonmemo, moonshl2, R41Menu and a file called R4.dat

Then i made the folder called 'games' i put one old game in it to test...

The DSi still says there is no game card inserted in the DS games card slot?

I cannot understand why?

One thing though.... my son has a DS lite and we have an R4 card for that and in with the games on the files and folders i listed above is also a file named: SWRESET.SYS and a file named: DEMON0.SYS

These two are not present in the downloads i have been trying? are they relevant here?

Someone else cofigured the R4 card in the DS lite so i don't know...

i think this is what u need...
(but by no means certain )

1. reformat your sd card.

2. download this firmware.

when you extract the files you will have a folder.
open the folder and you should have 3 folders and a file inside.

copy the 4 items to root of sd card and add a game....
post back results...

have you tried the r4i card in the dslite?

the reason i am asking, you should get some sort of error message on the dsi with r4i inserted.
not no card inserted?

Okay guys..

I REALLY appreciate your efforts to help me... really very kind of you..

However i think the R4i card i bought is a duff!

Why?

Cos i just tried the R4 card from the DSLite in the DSi and it worked.... so i copied the kernel and software from that older Micro Sd card to my newer one from the R4i card (the one not working!) and lo and behold either of my DS's here will happily load either Micro SD card as long as it is inserted into the older R4 card and not the newer one i just bought from the link above!

Therefore i suspect they have sold me a dud!

If anyone knows a trick to test or can tell me i'm missing something.... but it would seem logical to me as i now have managed to format the SD card and have it work via the older R4 card... therefore NOT a software issue..right?

Bolloxx i'm kinda pissed off now... gonna have to buy another R4i card... where is a good reliable trustworthy UK site to purchase and get it quick?

Maybe i should chase them for a replacement....

slow down...

there are loads and loads of diffrent r4/r4i cards.
they all look pretty much the same but all have diffrent firmware's....
the sd card from from the r4 card wont work in the r4i card.
all these cards are made by diffrent people, there is no continuity....

however,
i suspect too thhat you have a dud.
reason:
when you put your r4i card into your dsi, you should get an error message if you have the wrong or no firmware installed.
this usually is a sd symbol in red.
but you are getting "no card inserted" which means the dsi is not reading the r4i card at all......

i would recommend if you are going to get another flashcart, that you ditch the r4i's and buy an acecard2i.

they are much easier to find firmware for and very well supported...

I also read others saying those cards are better....

So i emailed the company i bought from and complained requesting a replacement.... ya never know...

Plus i just ordered an Acekard2 from the link you posted...should all be cool in a couple of days huh?

Not true....

I have two 4gb SD cards which both these DS's can read fine provided it's NOT in the R4i card i just bought...

only original r4 card dont support sdhc cards, so you can't use anything bigger than 2gig.

r4i cards/acecards etc support sdhc, so you can use any size of card.....

As i said earlier..i'm almost certain it's actually a dud unit... i just got very unlucky... the link you just posted was where i started...

I'll just wait for the Acekard and hope the other place gives me a refund or replacement R4i Card...
