what version is my firmware

I bought a wii that played everything new, I assume it had been soft modded, however it goes to the oprah screen so i am assuming it is semi bricked as it plays wii fit the NTSC game we have which came with the unit an NTSC machine. It used to play PAL no problem now it won't play any of them. All the instructions I can find say to make sure you know the version, I can't access the settings so how can I find the version out ? Don't know much about this sort of stuff so need detailed instructions to get the settings menu back and try and re soft mod to play everything. It was bought in the middle east and they said the Wii came in an all region version, I had no reason to disbelieve them but Nintendo have basically said my problem, nothing they are prepared or even able to do.

do you know what the system menu was before?
this error as occured because you have updated with a pal game do you know what the game was?
"metroid the other m" has 4.3 update on it try that game or any other 4.3 updating game {google them} but make sure there your region. put it in the drive and see if it wants to update if it do's then update and you will get your settings back.

You say you can't access Wii Options and Wii Settings to see the version number and if someone has softmodded it they didn't give you the NAND to restore it?

You say you bought in the middle east so that could really be any area it was made for, they don't make an all region version.

The version number will be followed by E - Europe, U - USA, J - Japan and K - Korea this will tell you the area it was made for.

If you get the serial number of the Wii and type it into Wii Drive Chip Database that my give you some idea when and where it was made for?

If your assuming it had been soft modded do you have the Hombrew Channel on the Wii menu?

I have a few NTSC games on my HDD and they all play without fault on my PAL version.

If you Goggle unbrick a wii ntsc they are loads of links you can read.
