wii 4.2U softmoded - searching for advice

Hello, I've had my wii 4.2U running with the softmod that's in the tutorial on this site for going on 2 years now. It's always worked great, but have noticed newer games that i'm getting are not working.
Just wondering if there are some latest & greatest updates I should make to help my system be more compatible with these newer games?
I'm seeing a lot of posts about 4.3, should I update to this new homescreen? My gut says no, but I've been out of the 'scene' for long enough I really have no idea what's been going on.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

no dont upgrade to 4.3 or will lose the way of playing backups etc with your softmod,

all you need to do is find the tut on updating cios to dx2v7 and you will be good to go with most games on disc and on usb so find the dx2v7 wads install and then hopefully be up to date if not re soft mod and update all cios with the update

think seen both comments on here so should be ok

Please list the games that don't work?

How are you playing these games from disc or HDD?

I can't see how upgrading you will loose this ability? Mine was originally 4.2E but it was 4.3E when I softmodded and I can play backup games as you know.

If he upgrades to 4.3 he will have to softmod again but he will be on 1.0.8 and he will have the new shopping channel.

It depends if he has the original NAND backup which I doubt after 2 years.

What he means is do not use a nintendo official update from 4.2 to 4.3 or he will lose the softmod. That was the soul purpose of 4.3 update it didn't effect you because you didn't do the softmod till after you had updated.

saltyboys advice is sound enough but for a full upgrade that includes system ios but won't ruin softmod run a syscheck and put the file it creates into Digital Kaos - Downloads - modmii 4.3.4 this is the old version and will ask you to update first time you run it. Once you have put the syscheck file into modmii it will download all the required ios and cios required to bring your wii softmod up to date.

Thanks for the info happy, I've downloaded the ModMii package. Please excuse my ignorance, but where do I go to run a syscheck? And where would the file be once I do that? On my SD Card?

Keithuk - the most recent game is Kirby's Return to dream land.
At first it would just go to a white screen after the intro, then i did some searching for a fix, changed some settings for that game within USB Loader GX and was able to get it to the screen where you select a save-game slot, from there it freezes up.

Another game is Metroid: Other M - (I know this game isn't as new) It freezes up after the training session.

I just figured since I haven't touched my softmod in around 2 years, maybe it was time to update some stuff, and from the sounds of it, there is

Thanks again everyone for your input on this

Google syscheck then putt it in the apps folder and open through hbc. This will create a csv file on the sd card that's in the wii. Transfer the csv file tho the pc. Right click it and select open with, then pick word pad, not notepad. You then start modmii and select to update it will then promo you to copy and paste the csv file. That is it, let it do it's job and it will download all the wads you need

Thanks again happy, I was able to do what you suggested and everything went very smoothly. All my games are still working that had been previously.

The Kirby game is actually worse now though...it won't load at all. Just goes to a black screen.

Metroid: Other M also still freezes at the same point after the training.

I'm thinking I'll try saltboy's idea as well and see if that gets me anything.

Strange that, I have kirby working on gx 2.3 with d2x v7 all game settings as default and running from the true nand. I haven't played metroid for a while but I do have it on my hdd and it was working so it should still work. All cios upgrades are improvements from the previous version. I'll have a go later and see how I get on.

What are you trying to load metroid with. You are aware that dual layer games need to be loaded with 222 or 223

Hello. I did all you mentioned. I just have to copy and paste all the wads it downloaded to my computer to my SD card in my Wii? I did that and a few i just downloaded were already on my SD card,so i just over write it with the new one,is that also OK to do? Now i just have to load them with my WAD manager? Thanks in advance.

Happy - thanks for the info about Metroid, I actually just read about the 222 loading before seeing your comment, so i'll try that and it'll probably work.

Is it possible that my version of USB Loader GX needs to be updated?

And just to be clear, it's Kirby's Return to Dreamland, not Kirby's Epic Yarn. I was able to get this game to the start screen by loading with 222, but then when i hit '2' to start, it goes to a white screen with a short broken music loop.

There are updates out for the 3 main USB Loaders which you can do through the app. If you don't know how to access them let me know?

I think only WiiFlow has an About screen (?) bottom left to show you the version number where you can update, the others you have to run them of HBC to see the version number.
