Run legitimate games through disc channel on softmodded Wii

Hey guys, just another quick question-- I'm gonna Softmod my cousin's wii over Thanksgiving for HDD loader use, and I was wondering-- after softmodding using ModMii's setup and then installing the d2x v7 a5 wads (somewhat) necessary for Skyward Sword, can they still continue to play legitimate Wii games through the Disc channel, or is that and the HDD option mutually exclusive?

I ask because they're 14 and live 1100 miles away from me normally, so if something goes wrong with the USB loader while I'm back at college, everyone's hosed. If that's the case, I need a stopgap that allows them to play regularly before I can swoop in and fix the issue over a break.

So um, rambling aside, if they want to play completely legitimate Wii games in the event the HDD no longer works, can they do so without issue? (Assuming I use Priiloader to block both Disc updates and Network auto-updates)

Alright, thank you. I just... have never actually encountered this before. Like, the whole reason I started with the softmodding stuff is because my Wii's DVD drive broke and I'm... also broke, so I had to explore alternate options, so I never really had to revisit the whole... legitimate games thing.

So that's good, I'm glad there's a plan B if shit hits the fan.

As an afterthought kind of question, is there any impact that softmodding has on the Disc Channel? Like, if I install any of the d2x wads in 245-251, will that impact how the Disc Channel handles legit games? Does it use the new IOSes to run the games? I'm sorry if these questions have really obvious answers, I'm just curious as to the mechanisms. If not, does the Disc Channel run independently of softmodding?

There is no impact on the original disc channel or the way it handles the games. The usb loaders use cios which are additional to the original ios you use for legit games.
