please help with my new HDD

Hi all and happy new year to everyone. I am getting ready for softmodding my wii and yesterday has arrived my new portable HDD (Seagate 500GB Expansion Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive) -still waiting for a new sd card- and I am just wondering what is best do with my hdd? I do have some back ups ready to go on it. Some back ups are "disc image file" and some are " wbfs ". Shall I split my hard drive in two(one for iso and one for wbfs)? What software do you recommend? please help me I haven't got a clue .
    many thanks to all

You don't use iso files on the hdd all your iso files will be converted to .wbfs when you put them on the hdd, but the fact that you have both wbfs and iso files the best program for you to use is Digital Kaos - Downloads - Wii backup manager 0.4.0 build 65 install this onto your pc and use this to transfer all your files from pc to hdd won't matter if they are in wbfs or iso format this program will convert them all to wbfs and I would recommend formatting hdd to fat32 with 32kb clusters as this is the most compatible format with all apps, wiiware, films and games it can also been recognised by your pc if you have any problems which means if it does go pear shaped standard data recovery software will work to recover your files. To format drive use EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com by using this format you will not have to partition your drive everything can be stored and read from the same partition something that cannot be done if you format to wbfs which Keithuk will recommend but it is now a very old format method which still works well but is no longer the most compatible

Well I may as well put my 2 penneth in, you can do as HH suggests if its simple enough for you.

First off portable hard drives aren't the best as some work and some don't you would be better off geting a mains powered hard drive.

      USB Compatibility List

Now I've only use WBFS Manager because its simple and very easy to use. This will only take iso files so if you download any wbfs files then you can very easily convert them with WiiGameConverter GXS not the simple edition. Or as HH suggests Wii Backup Manager 0.4.0.

You say you are about to softmod your Wii what version number are you at the moment? The softmod only does just that then you need to read up on how the add USB Loaders and install the necessary wads so they will work. There are plenty of tutorials on here.

Oh if your waiting for your SD card to arrive I hope you've ordered the correct one a 2GB SD card not SDHC card?

      Happy New Year.
