    newbie question

hi all, I have finally all the gear in place to softmod my wii. Before I start I have been recommended to use a 2gb sd card and use the formatting software "SDformatter V2.0" available from the download side of digital kaos.....My question is: I have been told to choose FAT32 with 32 cluster size.....The problem is that when I run this formatter I haven't got any choice. Anyway I run and formatted the Sd card and I have got at the end the following message:

    file system FAT
    total space 1.84GB (1,977,286,656 Bytes)
    Cluster size = 32768 Bytes

Am I ok to go? Or something missing
    Many thanks for your time

I've never used any fancy formatter as the Windows one will format an SD card FAT32 and 32 cluster size.

Well you've shown its a FAT format but not FAT32. The FAT was the earlier DOS format I think. The Cluster size is correct 32k.

Windows will only format small drives FAT32 or exFAT and with 32k clusters.

Let Windows format it and try and softmod it, if it can't read the files of the SD card then its the wrong format type but it will. You say your using a 2GB SD card not and SDHC card because those won't work for softmodding.

Thats very strange which Windows are you using and do you have an SD slot or an adaptor?

Just try SDformatter if it can't read the files to softmod it then its the wrong format.

It is only your sd card mate format it to fat or fat 32 cluster size is only really for hdd it will work as fat no problem and if you are using xp I don't think you will even get a fat 32 option on a 2gb card

Sorry for the late reply, I have vista and it doesn't let me complete the formatting on fat32, I have tried another newer laptop with windows 7 and when choosing fat32 I couldn't choose 32kb cluster (maximun of 16), so I try FAT32 with default cluster. At the end it did manage to format to FAT32 but I haven't got a clue on what cluster has been used...
So strange, mine is a brand new SD card 2GB from San DisK and I have a SD slot
During week end I will try softmodding.....thanks for all your help.....(I am quite sure I will be back for more advice)

I softmodded mine using my Vista 32bit laptop to store all files and add them to the SD card. I've just had a look at the format options.

It will format NTFS, FAT, FAT32 (default), exFAT.

                  Allocation unit size - the default is 4096 bytes which I've always used and 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192 bytes, 16, 32 and 42 kilobytes.

So as I said it should format your SD card.
