3.4e fw , should i update before softmod

Hi Guys , sorry if this has been asked before , i presume it has but guessed the latest modding methods rendered old info obsolete ,

i just picked up a wii and it has 3.4e f/w on it , i wanted to softmod it in order to play backups from usb hdd ,
can any kind soul tell me the best method to mod it , not sure if i should update to latest fw or if that will make the mod harder ?

any info for a wii newbie very welcome

Do an official update then download modmii from the downloads section and run it on the pc then follow the instructions selecting "w" for full softmod wizard and then choose letterbomb as your chosen hack method. This get you all threw files you need and write you a tutorial. When you get to the stage about installing bootmii, you want to select as boot2 then instal it again as an ios. This is important....
