Not sure about that one. It will still be recognized as a usb device and I don't know of any external dvd drives that will read a wii/gc disc.

First of all yes it does have a d3-2 dvd drive which impedes me from playing burnt backups, i use an external dvd drive and hermes uloader to load wii backed up games.

Second i already softmodded it and it has the homebrew channel and all the basic stuff as i followed mauifrog's guide.

And finally i want to be able to load GameCube game disc on my wii it doesn't mater if i have to burn them on a 12cm DVD as a multigame iso or if i have to use my external DVD drive i just wanna be able to play GC backups from disc.

My previous sd card was 1gb and a gc iso didn't fit in it i was trying from the sd as CK-OK recommended so that i could see if i had everything installed already

Also i have windows 7 and the sd card is formated as FAT32
You have answered your own question there mate that having the d3-2 chip you will not be able to play a multi game iso backup disc no matter whether it's gc games or wii iso and no you cannot play gc games from an hdd or not that i'm aware off.
You will have to get a bigger sd card if you can load them from that if that's a reliable option. You do have another option of dios mios and sneek+di to load from sd but you will need to google it. I'm not sure if uneek+DI will launch them fromm hdd but it's not reported as working anywhere.

So what size was your original SD card?

If you extracted all the files\folders from Letterbomb.zip to a FAT32 formatted 2GB SD card then that should be recognised when you click the red envelope.

Which Windows are you using to format the SD card?

Neogamma is an app that plays burnt games to a DVD now your Wii maybe 4.3 now but do you know what it was originally?

If you type in the Wii serial number into Wii Drive Chip Database as Wii's after 2009 won't play burnt games with Neogamma.

neogamma is your best bet,on the main neogamma screen change load game from dvd to sd and you should be able to play your gc games from there.

to my surprise it didn't work i could not read GC disk and got the same DVD error -1 but the good news is the read speed improved and i didn't had to reconnect my driver for it to start reading the game so is a half fix it didn't damaged anything and fixed a minor issue, still i can't play my gamecube backups and don't know what to do now.
try playing a gc game from the sd card to make sure you have everything you need to play them.

okay i already did what the guide told me soo i though maybe it will work now but i tried on the gc backup launcher and nothing then i tried in the hermes uloader and i got dvd error -1 i looked it up and got this:

Wad Install Error:Most likely you have cIOS installed incorrectly, out of date, or missing.Your SD card is not Formatted as FAT16 or FAT32 properly, reformat it. If a file was needed, then it was not in the correct folder. Each application needs its files in specific folders, so pay attention to that. Can also be a bad wad or not enough space on the Wii. (example: If your installing cios38rev17 offline make sure you have ios38-64-v3867 on the root of your sd)

so i don't know what is wrong i got that error before i did the guide when i tried my gc backup.
