Son busted Wii, is there hope

I need help, my son busted our Wii, it will not take CDs anymore, they won't even go in so I figure it might be time to hack this sucker. Hopefully I can get it to run of an external hd or usb stick. I have been reading thu the threads and there are ALOT of hacks/mods and I'm not sure what way to go. I read I needed certian games to get the Homebrew channel(what ever that is ) but I have no use of the CD is there still a way to get this thing up and running? I'll be the first to admit, I don't know the first flippin thing about this and need an idiots guide to help Its running ver 4.3U btw

    Thanks everyone

Well if its a 4.3 the best option is to softmod it with LetterBomb. You will need a 2GB SD card not SDHC formatted to FAT32 via Windows. Extract all files from Letterbomb.zip to the SD card. You will need a WiFi connection for this to work.

Insert it back in the Wii and keep clicking on the Wii messages and click back a few days until you see the red envelope. Click on it and that will start the softmod process. Do all 3 options.

    1) Install Homebrew.
    2) Install BootMii.
    3) Prepare SD card - this is needed so you can do a NAND backup straight after softmodding, don't missing. NAND backup

After it has been softmodded it will run Homebrew but because there are no apps in the apps folder on the SD card you will only see bubbles. Press the Home button and select Launch BootMii to do the NAND backup.

Once softmodded all you need are the wads installing to operate a mains powered external hard drive, there are loads of tutorials on here. I wouldn't bother with a USB flash drive as they aren't big enough.

Others will have other ways probably with ModMii but thats the way I would do this.

Well said Keith. Soft modding will be the best option for your Wii being that your drive is broken.

Yes wiihacks is a good site I've been on there for a while but everything you click on takes ages to load probably due to adverts.
