Need help with my wii

Hi,
My name is Jess Im pretty new to all this someone told me it was possible to play games on my wii using torrrents I initially thought all i had to do was get the homebrew channel but that was not the case. Im really new at this and dont know what Im doing I have the homebrew channel but dont know what to do with it or how to play the torrents I downloaded. If anyone can please help me i would be so grateful. Like I said i am new to this and needless to say i need a dumbed down explanation if one is even given thanks

Welcome to DK Jes.

Did you softmod the Wii or did someone else? They you/they do a NAND backup straight afterwards?

You don't say which Wii version your using. The first thing you can do is download sysCheck and add it to the SD card. Run it from Homebrew. Post a full report as instructed in that link.

Now there are two ways to get the USB Loaders working. After you have done a sysCheck the results will in a sysCheck.csv file on the root of the SD card. You can download and run ModMii6.1.5.zip from Windows. On the main menu type in SU which means Syscheck Update. Type in the location of the sysCheck.csv and let it process and download all the updates needed. Those files and folders will be put in COPY_TO_SD sub folder just copy them all to the SD card.

Put the SD card back in the Wii and run Homebrew. Select IOS236-v5-Mod and let is install IOS36 as IOS236. Come back out and run Multi-Mod-Manager and select WAD Manager this will default to the wad folder install all wads in there. Watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't install just try them again.

Now ModMii only installs 2 d2x v8.0 wads so you may as well install all the others. d2x v8.0 final pack

Now ModMii never gives you the option to install USB Loader GX which is the best USB Loader. Download USB Loader GX USB Loader GX Latest All in One Package. USBLoader_GX_V3_0_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip and add that to you SD card. You can also download USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_5_1_AHBPROT.wad and install this wad with MMM. This will put USB Loader GX on the Wii menu.

Then download PriiLoader and add that to the SD card and run it fron Homebrew. Once running you can block online and disc updates and you can disable the 'A' prompt on startup.

All you have to do then is find a suitable mains powered external USB HDD to add the games on to.

The other method is all these apps and wads are in the download section if you know what to add and install.

I hope I've made this simple enough for you? See how you go one with the ModMii method and report back if your successful or not.

After you've done all that run SysCheck and post a full report as instructed in that link so we can see which wads you've installed.

yay beginner here.

Hey! I bought wii yesterday. It was already used and i suppose it is softmoded because there is already that homebrew channel.. The channel is empty atm but it seems i need to download some files to play games through homebrew. I am very new with this kind of things so I will definitely going to need some help. Oh anyway I did fins out that my system is 4.3e and i cannot run dvd's. Hopefully I will be able to run some games from usb at least. Well, but let's see how this goes when i can download those needed files. thx already!

Welcome to DK lazord.

If you already softmodded the just follow my instructions in post #5.

We don't know which Wii version your using. Click on Wii Options bottom left then click on Wii Settings the spanner and the version number will be shown on the top right.

If its less than 4.0 then you need to buy a 2GB SD card and format it FAT32 in Windows. If it 4.0 or greater then you can use the larger SDHC cards I use a 4GB, again format it FAT32.

The Homebrew channel will be empty until you add some apps in the apps folder on the SD card. You can add sysCheck to the SD card then run Homebrew and you should see that listed. Run it then post a report as instructed in that link then we will know whats been installed before.

Firstly, Keith many thanks for such a brilliant post mate. Followed your instructions to the letter as I have been on 3.2e for goodness knows how long. Seems to be working ok after the updates so far so good. I see however this updates to 4.1e is it better to update to 4.2 or even 4.3 and, if so, what is the best method?

Well bugaloo if everything is working as it should do on your 3.2 I wonder why you what to update to a later version?

Updates have been talked about on here if you search. If you just wanted the shopping channel then ModMii will add that channel as a wad you just have to install it.

If you wanted to update to 4.3 then providing you don't have PriiLoader installed just do an online update but you will have to softmod it again. You can then use LetterBomb to softmod it again.

As I said ModMii will add any channels you have missing like Shopping and BBC iPlayer. I'm not sure whats missing on a 3.2 Wii maybe the Internet channel but I don't think thats worthing trying to type using the temp keyboard.

I'm curious which wads you have installed on your working 3.2, do you fancy posting a sysCheck as instructed in that link?

I was on 3.2e until I read your post. I then followed that to the letter and that has updated me to 4.1e. Installed all wads that were included your link - think it was an additional 48 from memory based on my syscheck file.

Installed homebrowser and a couple of additional apps today (on holiday and time to kill) and everything is running sweet.

Read a fair wee bit today online to see if its better to upgrade to 4.2 or 4.3 but not in any hurry to do so as not convinced there is any huge advantage.

I was really trying to see if I could install netflix and change my dns settings to allow usa access. From what I have read the wii doesnt seem to be as successful as it is on an xbox or ps3 so looks like I may need to park that for now.

I'm getting confused here, your on 3.2 and were asking if upgrading to 4.2 or 4.3 would be better. Then you were leaving it.

Now your saying you upgraded to 4.1. I didn't recommend upgrading to 4.1, if you what to upgrade go all the way to 4.3 then softmod it again.

If your on 4.1 and everything is still working as it should then leave it.

You can Google netflix on a wii 4.1. Again without seeing your sysCheck report we don't know which wads you have installed as the Shopping channel need IOS56.

Keith ok think I will start again here just so that my message is conveyed much more clearly!

Before I read your earlier post I was on 3.2e which I had used ages ago via the original zelda hack. To be honest I rarely ever use the wii but have wanted to update the softmod for a while. I had tried a while back but cannot recall what error I was encountering so left things as they were.

I then caught your post and thought that I would give this a try again. It was brilliant and such a simple process to follow. Everything worked well and it only took about 15 minutes to complete. Using the links in your post I have now upgraded to 4.1e.

I have installed a few other apps in addition to what was in your post. I have updated the shopping channel and installed netflix and was simply trying to see whether I could amend the dns settings on the wii to obtain the USA access which is superior to whats available in the UK. So far no joy but it`s no big deal.

I was then asking the question of whether it was worth upgrading from my now status of 4.1e to 4.2 or 4.3. From what I can gather (having read a bit) there does not appear to be any major advantage to doing so.

I have uploaded a syscheck file as of this morning.
