just got a wii for kids and tried to set it to internet with no joy followed all instructions can any 1 help

Are you thinking of softmodding it m8 ?
If so when you do finally get it connected to the net it will ask you to update hit the no button or you will be unable to softmod it.
Anyway back to your question, do you have a wireless router?
If so you will need to know your encryption password/key depending on the type of encryption you have chosen.
Turn on the Wii, go to the little Wii bottom left,then go to wii settings,look for internet then click on it,connection settings,connection 1,wireless connection, search for an access point, scans for your router (it should find it, if not you will have to enable SSID broadcast via the router), when it finds your router it asks for the encryption password/key, click save settings,checks the settings and then tells you that you have succesfully connected to the internet.
