    SD card not detected

    Hi guys.

I removed the SD card yesterday to add a few game pics and do a backup. When I removed it a small piece of black plastic 6mmx2mm dropped on the table. I checked the black SD card and nothing was broken off. I added the game pics and inserted it back up the Wii then clicked on USB Loader GX and it when straight back to the Wii menu. This normally means it can't read the SD card. I inserted a spare SD card but there was no beep to say a SD card had been inserted.

I went into saved games and tried to save back to the SD card but it say no SD card inserted. I Googled for this problem but nothing useful came back. I thought I must dismantle it to find where this part has broken off. On YouTube there are plenty of video's on dismantling the Wii. It says you need a tri-wing screwdiver for some screws. I Googled these and found Nintendo Wii triwing tri wing and star screwdriver set for ?2.45. Some were selling these screwdrivers from ?90 for 2 screwdrivers.

I'm sorry but these Wii's aren't very reliable. I Googled for used Wii consoles they are from ?25 on eBay. They say they are working and tested but that means sweet FA. Its a pity I wasn't working as I could have taken into our electronics department for testing.

Ok I searched around for Wii consoles this week there are loads on fleabay that don't work or spares/repair from ?14. I emailed the ones that said tried and tested if they had tested the SD card is recognised and no one could say.

I found a pawn broker in Telford that was selling 2 Wii packages Wii console, wiimote, nunchuck, sensor bar, power supply and cables. I took some SD cards down to test them out. He had one with scratches, marks and a broken game port flap for ?35 and one that was very clean with the same package for ?40, so we tried the SD card in it and it recognised ok, it was a 4.3E. When I came to pay for it he asked ?35, this wasn't the marked scratched one so I had a bargain.

I get it home and plug it in. I setup the internet and its parental password locked so I had to use Wii Parental Control password reset tool like I did on a previous softmod.

Everything went smoothly 45 minutes (20 minutes to do the NAND backup) later its softmodded and my games work again.

Obviously the Shopping channel needed a system update so that was easily fixed. RVL-Shopping-21

I tried to copy all the saved games of the SD card back so I don't have to start all these games from scratch again but the message on each one said I need to play the game at least one before I can copy them back so I've got to do alot of game playing.

While I was searching eBay this week I bought some Kingston 4GB SDHC cards for spares.

Oh the tri-wing screwdrivers arrived this week so I dismantled it so I could see what this piece of black plactic was that fell out whe I ejected the SD card. It appears to be of the guide where the SD card slots in. It was no real detriment as it still firmly supported.
