Wii soft mod bricked white HELP PLZ

    Hi all,
I know nothing of Wii but I can buy this for ?16, no return.
    Can you help me please?
Would you pay & feel confident it will work? I am happy if it just plays Sports.
    I need answer asap plz.

    White Wii
    The seller says............
"Slightly faulty Nintendo Wii. I tried to modify my console to be region free unfortunately I bricked the console. it now doesn't play retail games just backups
which a bit of a pain for me. Anyway I am sure someone might be able to sort it out. I will throw in the sensor bar and power cables.
Hi, What 'copies' did it load and play?
It played games up to till Mario Galaxy 2. Not sure now as haven't used it in ages.
Doesn't play any original/retail games hence the reason for selling it as 'for parts' . The last game we tried was animal crossing. The retail version failed but I
could load a copy from the SD slot. I am not sure about Nintendo's recent firmware updates so I have no idea if it still works on new games. I imagine that it
can be fixed with some time and effort. Don't have either hence it was sold as 'for parts & not working' . It is just the console, sensor bar and power supply
Soft modded mate using Wii bomb or something. Long time ago to be honest. It was bricked when my girlfriend decided to update the wii firmware from nintendo
to play a game. I messed around a bit trying to reset it and eventually got it to play backups but not originals.
I just don't play on the wii and since newzbins has gone I do not download games."

    Welcome to DK.

There are various types of a bricked Wii

If when it was softmodded they did a NAND backup you could restore it to near original. I sounds like your buying this from someone on eBay therefore it doesn't look like they have the NAND backup else they would have restored it.

Who ever softmodded it didn't install PriiLoader to stop any online or disc updates. Obviously you don't have this Wii your just thinking is it worth buying?

As you will read in that link one of the causes of bricking a Wii is region changes as you've said. You can make it Region Free in PriiLoader.

Google for this problem then make your own mind up whether its worth buying. Its only worth the ?16 for spares.

There are videos on YouTube about bricked Wii's if you do a search.

Thanks K. I have researched it a lot but still unable to make an educated decision as it's a lot to assimilate at short notice, hence my seeking advice from you experts. I read that the white models with the bug are more amenable to recovery. Are you suggesting a none Priiloader installer means that later 'online or disc updates' result in the bricking? 'Its only worthy of spares' .... But seller says it loads copies. Do you mean spares as in for breaking? Another forum said the fact that it plays games means it is not a lost cause and a software fix. I bought it but on the basis of being 'slightly faulty' etc.
      Thanks

What I'm suggesting is this person thats selling this bricked Wii his girl friend decided to update the wii firmware from nintendo. This won't brick a Wii it just means you have to re-softmod it again, correctly. If it was softmodded corectlty in the first place they should have install PriiLoader which blocks any access to online or disc updates.

I don't know that white Wii's are more amenable to recovery than any other coloured Wii's. Its just that the older softmodded Wii's bootmii is installed into boot2 not IOS which they say makes it easier to restore.

Again its very difficult to say how bricked as he calls it the Wii is. If he can still run burnt games of a disc then it isn't a full brick. Without see a sysCheck of his system he may not have the correct wads installed to run anything else. But to get him to post a sysCheck is going to be very difficult especially if its of eBay as you can't post web links in messages to tell him where to download it.

Again its your choice to risk it for ?16 or buy one that guaranteed working. For ?16 PM me the web link of the seller and I will buy it for spares as mine is giving trouble at the moment.
