Need help with first time softmod wii

    Hi

I have just recently bought a Wii and have just softmodded today

    using the Letterbomb.

Through some browsing of your awesome forums, I've managed to

    1) install the Homebrew Channel

    2) Installed Bootmii

    3) Backed up the SD

I've previously thought that now all I need to do is install the

WBFS manager, format my SDHC into a WBFS format

then copy the .iso file (games) I've downloaded over the

the WBFS-formatted SDHC and plug it into the Wii

and I can play it through the Homebrew Channel.

Alas, through much searching it seems I need much more than that

but now I'm lost with all the priiloader, USB Loader, all the different

    types of IOS etc etc.

I was hoping someone can guide me through the next few steps to

end up being able to play .iso files through a USB?SD?External Harddrive?

(I've read since my Wii is a new one, I wont be able to burn DVD)

Here is my Syscheck to see exactly what kind of situation I'm on

    Welcome to DK.

Well that a typical sysCheck of a Wii thats only been softmodded. You need to remove most of those IOS's that are stub down to 4 or 5.

So you've softmodded it using all 3 options.

    1) Install the Homebrew Channel

    2) Installed Bootmii in IOS

    3) Prepared SD card - so you can do a NAND backup straight after softmodding.

I've posted solutions to this problem in a few threads on here if your browse.

You need to download ModMii6.2.6 and run it from Windows. Now you have the sysCheck.csv file from the sysCheck which will be on the root of the SD card you can choose the SU option from the main menu. Type in the location of sysCheck.csv.

This will download all files into COPY_TO_SD sub folder. Add all files and folders to your SD card and run Homebrew with the SD card inserted. ModMii only adds 2 d2x v8.0 wads so install all 7 wads from d2x v8.0 final wad pack after you've added them to the wad folder on the SD card.

Run IOS236 installer from Homebrew first to install IOS36 into IOS236, you must do this before you install any other wads. Come back out then run Multi-Mod Manager and select WAD Manager and install all wads in that folder.
You will need PriiLoader 0.7 installing to block online and disc updates.

Your Drive date: 2007.02.13 so you should be able to play burnt discs but they aren't really worth it as you need to buy quality DVD's then find somewhere to store them all.

The other thing is you say you've downloaded WBFS Manager which is great thats what I've always used but your trying to add games to a SDHC card. You don't say how big this SDHC card is but it won't be big enough. You need to locate a compatible mains powered USB hard drive to add all the games you will eventually get.

Now there are 3 main USB Loaders, USB Loader GX, CFG USB Loader, WiiFlow the main one that most people use is USB Loader GX. Now you can Google this name and don't the neceassary files and add them to the SD card. If you don't have any success doing this we have USB Loader GX on here. Its also advisable to have USB Loader GX on the Wii menu that will save running HBC then clicking on USB Loader GX.

You need to download Download Forwarder only and put USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_5_1_AHBPROT.wad in the wad folder on the SD card and install it with MMM.

You can run sysCheck again and post a new sysCheck report afterward installing all the wads just to make sure all the necessary IOS's are installed.

I'm just in the process of downloading the USBLoader GX V3.0

I haven't got an externally powered HDD so I'll have to get one

before I can let you know more on how I'm going

So I've just downloaded the USBLoader GX 3.0 All-in-One from

the Digital Kaos downloads and have installed it into my SD card.

When I try open the USB Loader in the Homebrew Channel

its says 'detecting HDD... 20seconds remaining'

which means I probably need to have a HDD connected so

this will have to wait I guess.

So is there anything else I need to do? or can I just put the game

.isos into an external HDD, connect it to Wii and run the

USB Loader through Homebrew Channel and can start playing?

Keithuk, I'm not too sure about

your last few line about the Forwarder WAD.

I've found four or so WAD Files that was included in the

          All-in-One pack such as

          1) Channel IDOL

          2) Forwarder DOL

          3) USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_5_1_AHBPPROT

          and 4) USBLoader_GX_V3_O_UNLR_Channel1_AHBPPROT.

Is all I need to install the 4) one that you've told me to?

Do I have to worry about installing these other WADS files?

          Thanks

Well I don't know whats wrong with this forum yesterday and today I spend 5 minutes working out a reply and I clicked on preview and it showed I click submit and it came back with a database error. Luckly I copied and pasted in a file as a backup.

            I'll try again.

That sysCheck look ok apart from you didn't do everything I said. you only installed the 2 ModMi d2x v8.0 wads

If you want to remove the IOS16 stub which isn't critical, just add cIOS16-v257.zip and add it to the wad folder and install it with MMM.

When I searched for USB Loader GX the I couldn't find the main site so I posted that link which should work. I've since found the main site USB Loader GX you need the IOS249 package. This site has Forwarders on the left so just download USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder_5_1_AHBPROT.wad in the wad folder on the SD card and install it with MMM.

If the same forwarder is in the package you downloaded then use that one.

You said you were using a SDHC card to add game to as I said those aren't big enough. Ideally you need a mains powered USB hard drive, obviously the biggest you can afford. My first drive was a 120GB and that would hold 67 games.

Install the other wads I suggested then try you SD card/drive to see if they play if they don't that your SD card/drive isn't suitable.

            Post a new sysCheck afterwards.

              Hey Thanks Keithuk

Yup I completely forgot about the extra d2x packs

So I've done the three things u asked, the

              1) d2x final WAD pack

              2) IOS16 stub removal

              and 3) The Forwarder

I've just formatted a 16gb flash drive into WBFS format

and put in a Mario.iso and plugged in into the back of Wii.

Then I've tried loading the USB Loader GX through both

Wii channel and the Homebrew Channel but it says the

                USB Device is not found

Does the Flash Drive have to be partitioned to X + WBFS

or can it just be fully WBFS formatted through WBFS Manager?

When I plug the USB in the top USB port, it says

waiting for HDD... 20sec countdown before saying

                  'USB DEvice is not found'

However if I plug it into the bottom USB Port,

it DOESN'T come up with the 20 second message

and goes straight to 'USB Device not found'

                  Hope this helps too

                    Thats sysCheck looks ok now.

Now these USB sticks/drives will only work of the port at the bottom or nearest the edge as you've found out. That was something I forgot to mension after sorting out your wads.

This depends on the users if they want to use all the space on the drive for games. If your using a 16GB flash drive then let it format all the drive to WBFS. Even though its call WBFS Manager it won't add wbfs files to a drive. Even if you save a game of a drive it saves it back as an iso. When you add an iso file to the list of games to be added you will se 2 file sizes. The original iso will be around 4.36GB then in the middle it will say 2.2GB after its been converted to wbfs on the drive.

I use Wii Game Converter GXS to convert any wbfs files I have to iso.

At Christmas time I tried different things on my spare 120GB drive. I formatted it NTFS in Windows and made two folders games and wbfs. I added a few iso files in the games folder and a few wbfs files in the wbfs folder. Now I read somewhere these filenames have to be the Wii game ID number then the game name. I put the drive back in the Wii and started USB Loader GX, it would only show the wbfs games in that wbfs folder.

I deleted all files a folder and I tried Wii Backup Manager and added the same iso and wbfs files to the drive, its still formatted NTFS which the later USB Loaders support. As it was adding the games to the drive it only made a wbfs folder and is converted the iso files to wbfs files. It only named them the Wii game ID number. I put the drive back in the Wii and all games showed.

As I've said I've always used WBFS Manager to add games to a drive and that has never failed. As I said the drive has to be compatible which is strange because all drive/fash drives are media storage devices so why are some compatible and some aren't?

You don't say the make or type of the 16GB flash drive you have, check out the drives.

Sorry I missed something else with talking and wads and drives. Download PriiLoader 0.7 this will block any online or disc updates, I remove the 'A' safety prompt on startup.

If you used ModMii as suggested that should have added PriiLoader in the apps folder on the SD card.

                            That ok then.

4 things you only need 2 disable online and disc updates the disable 'A' prompt is something I like to do.

                            ModWii, ModMii.
