Assistance with Homebrew due to wii 4.3 update

    Hi
I have a similar problem as described in another post.

I too had to upgrade my wii when my son wanted to use he's new Skylander game. We only just inherited the wii console from my brother in law who had equipped the console with an external hard drive.
However, as we all know (which I didn't at the time), the new update blocks the use of external hard drives and therefore we can not use any of the games on the external hard drive.

However, we still have the Homebrew channel, although when I start the home brew channel a box comes up on the screen stating "Configurable USB Loader, Play from USB drive". I click on this and the following comes up -

    Configurable USB Loader
    Version: 50 (release)
    Coder: oggzee, usptactical, ...
Play wii Backups from USB harddrive
    Waninkoko cIOS 249 required!
    Hermes cIOS 222/223 is supported.
    USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

It then provides the options Delete, Load or Back. I click on "load". It then goes to a new screen with "Configurable usb loader" written and it freezes here.

I have downloaded syscheckb19 on the SD card but I can't see where it will allow me to run it when I go into the Homebrew channel on the Wii as there are no files present.

I also went into the "SD Card" icon and there again were no files in here - absolutely no files. Although, when it's in my computer it has a lot of files and games.

    Please help.

    Thanks

    Welcome to DK.

If this Wii was softmodded when your brother in law had it then there are things missing like PriiLoader 0.7 to stop anyone doing a system update or disc update.

Have you plugged this hard drive into a computer and looked at the file and folder structure there could be an apps folder on it?

You say there is nothing on the SD card make sure its formatted FAT32 and put sysCheck19 on it and see if it shows in Homebrew. For anything to show on the SD card the apps must be in the apps folder if that empty then you won't see anything. I personally run everything from the SD card as my drive is wbfs.

When your in Homebrew if you press button 1 it will say Devices: Internal SD Slot and USB Device. Click on USB Device with the drive plugged into the USB port nearest the edge and see what shows. When you exit Homebrew by pressing the Home button note the Homebrew number top right and tell us what it is. If not click on Internal SD Slot.

You have an old version of Configurable USB Loader Version: 50 (release) update to Version: 70, actually you would be better of using USB Loader GX.

I could give you loads of wads to install to cure your problem but we need it reading the SD card first.

The main thing here is I need to see that sysCheck report before we can go any further.

So how did you get sysCheck working?

Well that sysCheck is a typical Wii thats only been softmodded and nothing else. I think someone was telling fibs if they had a USB Loader working before.

Now the easiest way to fix all those Stubs which I've said in many threads in here. You need to reduce those 16 Stubs to around 3 or 4.

Download ModMii6.2.7 and run it from Windows. On the main menu type in SU and type in the location of the sysCheck.csv from the sysCheck. Its easier to put this on the root of a drive as it saves typo's.

That will download all wads and apps that are missing into a COPY_TO_SD sub folder. Add all files and folders to your SD card and run Homebrew with the SD card inserted.

First of run IOS236-v5-Mod and install IOS36 as IOS236, you must do this before you install any other wads. Come back out and run Multi-Mod-Manager and select WAD Manager this will default to the wad folder install all wads in there, read the instructions at the bottom for which buttons to press. Watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't install just try them again.

Now ModMii only installs 2 d2x v8.0 wads so you may as well install all the others. d2x v8.0 final pack Just add them all to the wad folder on the SD card.

If you want to remove IOS16 Stub then install my cIOS16-v257 that won't improve anything only remove that Stub.

As I said before you need to install PriiLoader 0.7, ModMii adds PriiLoader in the apps folder so you can choose with one you want to use. This will block any online or disc updates.

You will find that the Shopping Channel won't work anymore it will say you need to do a system update but don't bother just download and add RVL-Shopping-21.wad to the wad folder and install it with MMM. RVL-Shopping-21

        Then post a new sysCheck.

Thanks Keith for all your help.

Re the Syscheck - I had the file called Syscheck on the root of the SD and the apps inside of this and therefore it wouldn't read the apps file. Silly mistake on my behalf. Please note: I have warned that I may ask stupid questions although I now have to state that I also will make stupid mistakes. Lol

Now I apologise for the questions I'm about to ask:

          1. I've downloaded ModMii6.2.7, however, you suggest to open it up in windows - which application do I open as there are 2 - Modmii or Modmiiskin as it only opens up in a directory

          2. I just double clicked Modmiiskin and went through the steps.

          3. I got to the question as to which channels I want to update and I ticked all - is this correct.

          4. Do I tick "yes" to setup a USB-loader.

          5. If "yes", which do I tick -
          - FAT32
          - NTFS
          - Partially FAT32 & NTFS
          - HDD Already WBFS & I don't want to change
          - HDD already FAT32/WBFC & I don't want to change

If I have to check the harddrive, can you please give me "basis" instructions on how to do this.

I also had a thought regarding your thoughts re having a USB loader working previously - would it have anything to do with hidden files. The reason I ask is the Syscheck I did on the SD Card is from a copy that I made of the original one. And I'm wondering if I haven't copied across some hidden files that belong to the USB loader etc. Not that it really matters but just had that thought.

Also I have a confession to make - Since I did the syscheck for you I accidentally copied a personal file to the SD card as I didn't realise it was in the slot. I deleted the file but will this affect anything. It was just a PDF file of a scanned document - not a program file.

          Thanks

Leave ModMiiSkin.exe I will give you instructions on your hard drive after you have installed all wads.

You would run ModMii.exe. On the main menu type in SU = sysCheck Updater and type in the location of the sysCheck.csv from the sysCheck. That will show you a list of all wads and apps it will download. That will download all wads and apps that are missing into a COPY_TO_SD sub folder. Add all files and folders to your SD card and run Homebrew with the SD card inserted.

Now ModMii only installs 2 d2x v8.0 wads so you may as well install all the others. d2x v8.0 final pack Just add them all to the wad folder on the SD card.

First of run IOS236 Installer v5 MOD and install IOS36 as IOS236, you must do this before you install any other wads. Come back out and run Multi-Mod-Manager and scroll down to WAD Manager with the BIG + button at the top this will default to the wad folder. Press the number 1 button to install all wads in there. That will show a list of all wads in that folder press 'A' to install them all, watch for the Installed OK message after each one. If any don't install just try them again.

As I've said download PriiLoader 0.7 and add that to the SD card. After you have installed all the wads back out to Homebrew and run PriiLoader.

If you find all these instruction difficult all the updates that you need are in the Wii download section which I will post links to each one if you need them.

You posted earlier you have an old version of Configurable USB Loader Version: 50 (release) update to Version: 70, actually you would be better of using USB Loader GX. If you wanted to use Configurable USB Loader and your Wii has a web connection you can update to Version 70 ONLY. Hold your Wii remote on the bottom of the screen and click Main. Then click Updates then Program Updates. Scroll down to 70 (release) and press 'A' to download and install. There there are a few different updates in only use 70 (release).

Run sysCheck and post a new report so I can see that you have installed everything.

Can you tell me whether I have loaded the d2x v8.0 final pack correctly.

I haven't updated to 70 (release) for Configurable USB Loader as you suggested, the reason being that you suggested in your earlier post that maybe i'd be better of using USB Loader GX. Therefore, are you able to also provide me with the instructions on doing this.

Also I haven't installed cIOS16-v257 to remove IOS16 stub as you said it actually didn't improve anything so I thought I'd leave it at this point (also I couldn't actually find it - was I to download it separately onto the SD card).

Hopefully I have done everything correctly at this point.

              Looking forward to your reply.

              Thanks again.

No you haven't done what I've asked. You only have

IOS249[56] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS250[57] (rev 21008, Info: d2x-v8final): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

                You've used ModMii.

Install all 7 wads with MMM.

What do you mean you cant find cIOS16-v247.zip that link goes straight to it. Just extract cIOS16-v257.wad to the wad folder on the SD card and install that one with MMM.

The choice of USB Loader you want to use is up to the user. I have all 3 of them (see my sig) but I use USB Loader GX v3.0 all the time. Now there used to be a direct USB Loader GX site but thats gone missing but HH has posted it in the Wii download section. As I've said you can do updates for all USB Loaders in the app.

Apart from the missing d2x v8.0 wads that sysCheck looks OK so it should be able to run games of an external hard drive.

                  Hi Keith

Sorry but another stupid question - I've downloaded USB Loader GX v3.0 onto my PC, where do I extract USB Loader files to.
Do I put the apps file into the apps file already on the SD card.
Do I put the wad file into the wad file on SD card and then just access both files on the wii and update from here.

I also have a file in my apps called hackmii Installer - do I need to do anything with this.

Is it ok to install cIOS16-v257 after I have got everything working or doesn't it matter when I install this.

Prior to installing d2x v8.0 final pak - my son put in his Skylanders Disc into the wii and it came up with "require update" - this is what caused the external hard drive from not working in the first place as I updated. (We didn't update this time). I had down loaded PriiLoader 0.7 prior to this - why is this still asking me to update as I thought the PriiLoader was meant to deactivate this.

Prior to installing USB Loader GX should I be able to see the games on my external hard drive as I see no files or even a link/file where I can access the external hard drive.

Thanks for your help and I apologise for how dumb I sound but this is entirely all new to me.

Your asking the same questions again.

All apps you run from Homebrew need to be on the SD card. You can run them from a FAT32 hard drive but you have to tell Homebrew where to look.

If you've downloaded USB Loader GX v3.0 just extract all files and folder to the SD card.

All wads go in the wad folder unless otherwise stated.

You can forget hackmii Installer because Homebrew is already installed.

If you want to remove the install IOS16 Stub then add me install cIOS16-v257.wad to the wad folder and install it with MMM, it won't improve anything only remove the Stub.

I'm not sure which Skylanders disc you have but I tried Skylanders Giants and that needs USB wirleless receiver/Portal of Power which I don't have. If you read the Skylanders online manual it says it checks if the Wii system is up to date meaning a 4.3 system. You are 4.3 so I'm not sure why its asking for an update, PriiLoader is supposed to block online or disc updates so in theory it shouldn't allow updates.

You need to add a USB Loader to the SD card before it will show any games on an hard drive.

I forget to mention last night. If you put your Skylander disc in and run USB Loader GX. Click on the small + button bottom left that will install the game to the hard drive. I've been told from posts on here that games on an hard drives won't ask you to do any updates before they run. Or if you start USB Loader GX then put the disc in it will ask you if you want to install it.
