    4.3 USB Loader

    Hey guys,

This must be the millionth post about this so far, but I can't seem to get USB Loader GX to work.

Previously I had it working with an 8GB flash drive fine, but when I tried to get it to work with a 160GB HDD, it just times out waiting for the device and says no USB device found.
When it does search for it though (During Device Init) the HDD activity light blinks a lot.

Anyway, after this I used ModMii and re-did everything, and it's pretty much the same.

Any ideas? I'll get to work on a system check right now and post it.

    Thanks

Edit: Well sysCheck fails. I just get a flashing drive slot. Apparently it's an issue with it trying to load BootMii...

No idea where to go from here.. =p

Extra details: Been at it all night. Done:

    Installed Hermes cIOS v5
    Tried NTFS, FAT32, WBFS
Tried an 8GB flash drive, worked fine!
Joined 2 USB cables so the HD could draw more current... Nothing...
Wrote all zeros with diskpart, then tried it all again with FAT32

Tomorrow I'm going to try pick up a new 2.5" Sata/Power->USB Adapter, seeing as I doubt it's the actual hard drives fault. Some people seem to have luck with a different drive so I hope this works.

    Any ideas guys?

    Thanks

    Welcome to DK.

I don't know why the drive slot flashes when you try and do a sysCheck mine doesn't. When you softmodded did you install BootMii so when you exit Homebrew you have an option to Launch BootMii? it will show the Homebrew version number top right. Did you do a NAND backup straight afterwards?

Without a full sysCheck19 report to see which IOS's you've installed we are just guessing.

Without knowing what you have then I will give you a list a wads that are needed to run games from a softmodded 4.3 Wii.

    Install them in this order.

    IOS236 Installer v5 Mod

Now all these wads fit in the wad folder on the SD card so unless you make a note of the wad name you won't know which wads fixed you problem, if it does.

You need to install these wads with Multi-Mod-Manager (MMM) v13.4

    Full Cios wad pack

    d2x v8.0 Final wad pack

    my wad pack

You will find that the Shopping Channel won't work anymore as it says you need to do a system update. Don't bother with that else you will have to softmod it from scratch again just install RVL-Shopping-21.wad

We don't know whats on your system but if you don't see PriiLoader 0.7 in Homebrew then download it and install it, that will stop any online or disc updates.

If my sysCheck19 works then post a full report as instructed in the link.

Finding a good hard drive that works isn't easy, they should be mains powered. I will give you a couple of sites after we sort out your wads.

      Hey, thanks for the reply,

I tried all that you said. Nothing seems to work...

However, that version of syscheck worked great:

I'm not sure if following the steps changed it all from what it was, but I guess we can take it from here. This is driving me cray cray.

      Thanks in advance.

That sysCheck doesn't look to bad apart from you didn't install all 7 wads from d2x v8.0 Final wad pack you only installed IOS249, IOS250.

Are you using the lastest USB Loader GX 3.0, USBLoader_GX_V3_0_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip ?

If games don't play from an hard drive or USB flash stick then its how your adding the games or the drives aren't compatible.

I did post it as instructed. If you're complaining about having to click on a link to a 2.57KB text file, then, well... seriously?

Anyway, thanks for the response, I didn't notice I had missed the dx2 package. I installed them afterwards but it didn't do anything.

Regarding how I added ISO's, I'm pretty sure it's correct.

I used WBFS Manager 3.0. I tried using the WBFS Format, FAT32, and NTFS. I tried multiple ISO's which worked fine on the USB drive, and after all this failed, I did a complete zero wipe of the drive using diskpart to ensure the drive is formatted correctly, and did this all again. Still, nothing has seemed to work so, yeah. *Shrugs*

Also, I'm using as you stated above, USBLoader_GX_V3_0_AllinOnePackage_IOS249.zip.

I kinda find it weird that the drives activity light blinks lots when it inits the drive though.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. I didn't manage to pick up another Sata->USB board today, but I'll have another shot at it tomorrow.

Well if you didn't add all 7 d2x v80 wads until afterwards those are missing from http://puu.sh/3Ue63.csv you posted which I asked you to post like I did.

That sysCheck is the same as mine after all 7 d2x v80 wads and mine plays all games with WBFS Manager so there is still something wrong with yours.

              Thanks for the reply.

I got around to getting a new HDD enclosure- It worked, no problems.

I only have one issue that I have been trouble-shooting, and that is, some games randomly freeze.

              New syscheck: http://puu.sh/3WJ4g.csv

After installing the latest dx2 Beta (10 I think) it has only happened once, and that one occurrence was when I left it for a few minutes, so the only thing I can think of is the HD IO Controller is putting it in sleep mode?
I ran hdparm and did all I could to disable HD sleeping, but anyway, I have no proof that was the cause anyways.

So I was wondering, is there a new cIOS that can keep the HD out of sleep mode? I've tried looking around but haven't found much.

Also, what's the most current reliable USB loader? I've decided to switch to wiiflow.

Thanks for any help in advance.

edit: Nope, freezing lots still, on all games. It's like removing the disc on an old console, the game works fine until it needs to load something. Then it freezes completely.
For example, Mario Kart course selection. It has a little animation of the course you have highlighted. Well that suddenly freezes after ~20 seconds idle, and then if you try to go back to the menu, it freezes on a black screen.

Any ideas? Maybe this HDD controller is just as bad.

I've never installed dx2 Beta 10 I've always used v8.0 on evey Wii I've softmodded and it always worked so put back IOS249 and IOS250.

Some drives can take a while to spin up but I don't think they goto sleep.

If you want to get rid of IOS16 Stub then install my cIOS16-v257 it won't improve anything only get rid of that Stub.

I would always use USB Loader GX 3.0 because there are more tweaks and tricks for games plus you have better settings. If you want to use WiiFlow and your Wii has a web connection click on the About button bottom left and click on Update that will tel you if there is a new version available and it will download and install.

If its only some games you have a problem with can you name them, some games need different settings to run.

Did you try my Shopping Channel update?

Thanks for the response. I reinstalled the d2x 8.0 final wad pack you posted earlier, and also installed USB Loader 3.0 again. It's the same, it's the same across all loaders. So I'm totally out of ideas. I didn't install the shop channel update. Would it help?

Is there any other possible causes? It's across all games. (MK, SSBB, etc)

People will say it's not necessary, but is there a way to restore the Wii to 4.3E Factory defaults? I'll then start from scratch.

                  Thanks

I've just run ModMii6.2.7 on your sysCheck.csv and all it came back with was downgrade to cIOS249[56]-d2x-v8-final.wad and cIOS250[57]-d2x-v8-final.wad which I've suggested.

The only way to get it back to near original 4.3 is do a NAND restore but you must have done a NAND backup when you first softmodded it else your stuffed. You would need the original [bootmii] folder along with keys.bin and nand.bin on the root of a 2GB SD card. Exit Homebrew and select Launch BootMii use the second icon on the second page to restore the NAND. Very few users do a NAND backup because they don't know what it is. http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...loader-109168/

Then you would have to softmod it over again with LetterBomb.

Where do you live as I could come around if not to far in the UK, PM me?

I hate abbreviations I assume SSBB is Super Smash Bros. Brawl - PAL - RSBP01 I have to use Force PAL60Hz is the game settings for this to work.

I assume MK is Mario Kart Wii - PAL - RMCP01 which doesn't need anything special.

Hmm ok. I won't bother with the NAND. I have a backup but screw it.

I installed the v8 again, still freezes. But I noticed another symptom, whenever a game freezes, the drive starts flashing blue. What could that mean?

                      Thanks

Well it looks like you stuffed if you didn't do a NAND backup. Buy yourself another Wii I bought one earlier this year because my SD slot stopped working, full kit with everything ?35. But softmod it correctly this time.

                          Re-read. I do have a NAND backup...

I'm just not going to bother. Overwriting IOSs has no affect. It's the controller. A flash drive works fine, my old HD controller doesn't work at all and this one has some sort of issue. I'll buy yet another random SATA->USB Controller then...

I also tried multiple HDs so it's not that.

                          Thanks

Well if it works of a flash drive then there is nothing wrong with your IOS's or USB Loader GX settings, it can't read the drive as you've suggested.

In MMM you can uninstall an IOS if you use the small - button by its name then install the d2x 8.0 copies.

If you have the NAND backup then restore it and softmod from stratch now you know whats needed.

You have said where you live in a PM or in your profile?

I live in Sydney, so yeah you're pretty far away haha.

Oh well, like I said, I'll find another damn IO controller. This sucks. I'll let you know how it goes.

If you want to add me on MSN/Skype, PM me your addy and I can do that, though.

                              Thanks.
