"the device inserted in the sd card slot can't be used"

Not really understanding whats going on here, I have a wii 4.3u that has barely been used and I'm wanting to softmod for the first time. The problem is, everytime I put a sd card in the wii the wii recognizes it, but comes up with this error message: "the device inserted in the sd card slot can't be used" how do I fix it??? I've tried every format possible and I have used various sd cards, anyone know what the problem is??
