| Report generated on 2014/06/07. I have bought a preowned Wii with the intention of soft modding it. When it arrived it already had the HBC and USB Loader GX installed. The Wii did load and play discs until I broke it disassembling and cleaning the unit , I snapped the connector to the ribbon cable. When loading from a powered USB HDD or 4Gb USB stick, I always encounter a black screen and the you have encountered an error message that tells me to eject and reset the wii. I installed the N64 Zelda Majora's Mask .wad and when it starts up I revert back to a black screen and the error message. interestingly when I select the Wii shopping channel I also get the same outcome as before. I have tried CFG loader and still the same happens. All the loaders read the external discs no problem and when I select a title it continues to the next screen, but, I do not get a spinning disc in the centre of the screen, as I have seen on a certain video site. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to my next steps. |

Softmodded Wii will not load from HDD, USB stick or VC (N64 .wad)4

Well I don't see anything wrong with that sysCheck. When you first had this Wii which was softmodded did USB Loader GX work at all?
Does your Shopping Channel still not work without an upgrade? RVL-Shopping-21 - Downloads - Digital Kaos
The new USB Loader GX 3.0 will show the spinning disc if you change the USB Loader GX settings once loaded.
How are you loading games to the drive?
It depends if your Wii was originally 4.3 or its been upgraded as an original 4.3 won't play games burnt to a DVD.Keith

Hi Keith, thanks for the reply.
when I received the Wii the SD card was missing and when using USb Loader GX it did not work, when selected and START pressed it went to the black screen followed by the error.
The shopping channel I have not upgraded yet to RVL-Shopping-21 - Downloads - Digital Kaos, it as it was installed upon arrival.
I will follow a guide an install USB Loader GX 3.0.
I used WBFS Manager 3.0 to install the games to both HDD and USB drive.
The Wii arrived as a 4.3E firmware so I can't comment on its histoty. I have ordered a replacement DVD drive from ebay as I am unsure if this
makes a difference, also means I can use it to play original discs that I own.Comment

So the DVD drive has never worked you could try a lens cleaner? Have you bought the Wii tri wing screwdrivers so you can dismantle it?
On my first Wii 4.3E I got a DVD read error 1167 when I tried to use NeoGamma with burnt DVD's, the chipset is to new.
Once you get a mains powered external USB drive you can install all your original games onto the drive with all 3 USD loaders so you can save the original games to stop them getting scratched.Keith

The original drive did work, I broke the ribbon cable connector after dismantling the Wii to clean it and now cannot keep the ribbon in place, that is why I have ordered a new drive. When using the HDD with the working DVD drive connected I got the disk error identified above and also when I run a .wbfs image without the drive connected I still get the same error.
I have never burnt any discs and tried to run them.
I already have a mains powered HDD and the games are on the drive in .wbfs form. It is just that when they run from the drive the result in the black screen and disk error.Comment

You should be able to get just the DVD ribbon cable of fleabay.
I use WBFS Manager and it never fails. You shouldn't need the DVD working if the USB Loaders work as it uses the HDD only.

Thought I would do an update.
I have replaced the DVD drive with a unit bought from ebay ?9, fitted it this evening and everything that didn't work before now fully functions. I take it that the connection
of the DVD is the primary factor in the whole process. Would I be right in thinking that when the USB Loader calls IOS249 or IOS250, this in turns attempts to fire the DVD player and then redirects the call to the USB storage device.
Thanks Keith for your help, appreciated.Comment

I'm glad you fixed the DVD drive connection.
USB Loader GX uses the IOS's installed it doesn't look for the DVD drive. USB Loader GX will now add all your original game discs to the HDD so you can pack them away safely so they don't get damaged or scratched.Keith
