urgent help needed for softmod

i am trying my first softmod on wii
i have wii version 2.1E , iam trying the bannerbomb without zelda , but its not working , i have the sd card prepared but when i go to channels and click sd card the wii freezes and wont work till i reboot the wii.
i know this is a very early firmware but i dont want to update to 4.0 and be unable to easy softmod it.
please help , expert advice needed

upgrade to version 4 amd use the link above
