WII Update

Does anyone know how to make a external HDD work on my wii. I have firmware 4.1 on the wii and have followed previous instructions but still can not get it to work.
I loaded the homebrew channel onto the Wii but still cannot get the right IOS to work.
Should I try and go back to an earlier firmware and then load the IOS or can someone give me simple instructions with the right downloads to get it working ?
I am getting very frustrated at not being able to get it working.
My Wii has been chipped with WiiKey 2.

V4 Wii Softmod (without zelda)
This soft mod is for V4 and uses the bannerbomb crack upgrading to V4 is not recommended(only by me) this has been tested on V4 and works but this is a little more detailed than the Soft mod for dummies in the sense that if the aad1f_v108 file does not work you have to go to the site (link supplied) and get a different version other than that its fairly ok. Follow the tut in the doc. file exactly and you should be fine. This is for versions 4 wii's. Please do not use this thread for first post, the thread is to help those that need help and advice
